RUDY CHARLES SIGNS BASKETBALL SCHOLARSHIP AT EASTERN NEW MEXICO UNIVERSITY
PORTALES, NM — Rudy Charles, a 5’11” 180-pound point guard from Milford Academy in Connecticut, has signed an athletic scholarship to play for the men’s basketball at Eastern New Mexico University. Charles is the second high school player signed by first-year Head Coach Shawn Scanlan.

Including three returning players and four junior college transfers, the Greyhounds have nine players signed to scholarships for the 2000-01 season. Charles attended Milford Academy, a prep school, this past year. He previously attended Durango High School in Las Vegas, Nevada, and graduated from Durango in 1999. In high school, Charles played for Coach Al LaRocque. In 1998-99, Charles helped Durango earn a 23-11 overall record. Durango reached the State semifinals before losing to the eventual State champion.

Charles dislocated his shoulder late in the first half of the State semifinal game. Charles averaged 16 points and 5.4 assists per game at Durango. He also grabbed an average of 5 rebounds per contest. He was named First Team All-State and was chosen First Team All-Conference. Although Charles was injured at the end of the 1998-99 season, he fully recovered during his year at Milford Academy. He is expected to challenge for a starting position when the Greyhounds begin the 2000-01 season in November.
