LI’L HOUND POUND GROWLS AGAIN
PORTALES, NM — Area Youngsters will have an opportunity to experience college game-day atmosphere when Eastern New Mexico University and KOBR team up to participate in the NCAA Football’s annual “Take a Kid to the Game” program, 2000. At the KOBR Take a Kid to the Game Night, kids ages 18 and younger will receive a free ticket with the purchase of an adult ticket to watch the Greyhounds take on the WNMU Mustangs at Greyhound Stadium on Sat, Sept 2 at 6:00 p.m.

The game comes as a total entertainment package including a five dollar barbeque tailgate provided by Sodexho Marriott which will be available starting at 4:00 p.m. on game day at the stadium. “It’s like dinner and a movie, except better!” Events Manager Jennifer Poyer said. “Families can buy a great meal for five dollars a plate, and then they can stick around and watch the Greyhounds play.

” “Fans will go directly into the stadium from the food line, so they should purchase their game tickets before going to get their food.” Poyer added.

As an added treat, KOBR is giving away 50 T-shirts to the first 50 youth through the gates. “We’re happy to be associated with Eastern and for the opportunity to our youth throughout Southeastern New Mexico.” KOBR General Manger John Nelson said. “Any opportunities that provide young people with stimulating, family entertainment is something KOBR TV8 will always pursue.”

ENMU is one of more than 150 schools across the nation that are participating in this campaign focused on attracting more of the nation’s youths to college games. The Take a Kid to the Game program is entering its sixth year in the promotion of NCAA Athletics.

“We are very excited to be participating in the NCAA Take a Kid to the Game initiative,” said ENMU Athletics Director Rosie Stallman. “Our wish is that all of the young kids in our immediate area will have the opportunity to experience the one-of-a-kind atmosphere that is NCAA Football.”

Tickets for this special game, which are available now, can be purchased at the ENMU Athletics office at Greyhound Arena, room 45. For more information contact the Athletics Office at 562-2153.

As this is the first game in the 2000 season for the returning conference champion Greyhounds, excitement levels are running high. “Everyone is really excited about the upcoming Greyhound Football season. The team has a lot of returning starters, plus a very talented group of transfers and incoming freshman,” ENMU Sports Information Director Robert McKinney said.

“We hope all the excitement turns into a big crowd for the season opener against Western New Mexico. The Greyhounds take great pride in beating their in-state rivals, it would be a great way to start the season.” McKinney added.
