MARINER NAMED TO ALL-TOURNAMENT TEAM AT WTAMU LADY BUFF CLASSIC
CANYON, TX -- Eastern New Mexico University middle blocker Christabell Mariner, a sophomore from Pago Pago, American Samoa (Tafuna High School), has been named to the All-Tournament Team for the Third Annual Plains National Bank Lady Buff Classic, held at West Texas A&M University, Aug. 25-26.

Mariner helped the Zias earn a 2-2 record during the event. ENMU defeated Adams State College, 3-0, and Dallas Baptist University, 3-1, but lost to Regis University, 1-3 and fell to University of the Incarnate Word, 2-3. Mariner totaled 52 kills (3.3 per game) during the tournament. She led the Zias with 7 service aces, and also recorded 18 total blocks (1.1 per game). Mariner achieved a .217 hitting percentage during the event.

The Zias defeated Adams State, 15-4, 16-14, 16-4, in their first match at the Lady Buff Classic. Mariner earned 12 kills against ASC, and finished the match as one of three Zias with double-digit kills. Eastern improved to 2-0 with a 15-2, 13-15, 15-6, 15-6 triumph over Dallas Baptist. Against DBU, Mariner provided 8 kills, 9 digs and 9 total blocks. Regis downed the Zias, 2-15, 17-15, 15-7, 15-0. Mariner achieved 11 kills and 9 digs during the match. She added a career-high 21 kills, while recording 6 digs, in ENMU’s loss to Incarnate Word. The Crusaders edged the Zias, 15-10, 14-16, 15-12, 6-15, 20-18.

Eastern New Mexico plays at Lubbock Christian University on Tuesday, Aug. 29 (6:00 p.m. MST), before returning home to host the Torneo de Amigas on Friday, Sept. 1 and Saturday, Sept. 2. Other teams competing in the Torneo de Amigas will be Colorado School of Mines, Fort Hays State University, Fort Lewis College and Western New Mexico University.
