ZIAS EVEN HOME-AND-HOME SERIES WITH 64-39 ROUT OF ADAMS STATE
Freshman post Tia Doss provides 14 points, 11 boards
ALAMOSA, CO — Eastern New Mexico University outscored host Adams State College 22-5 over the final 12 minutes, as the Zias defeated the Grizzlies, 64-59, in Alamosa, Colo., Dec. 1. The victory avenged a 66-59 loss to the Grizzlies on Wednesday, Nov. 29. ENMU improved to 2-3, while Adams State dropped to 3-1 with its first loss of the season.

ENMU freshman post player Tia Doss (Albuquerque, NM/Highland H.S.) led all players with 14 points and 11 rebounds. She converted 7 of 11 field goals, while also earning 1 block and 2 steals. Doss scored 6 points and hauled down 6 rebounds in the first half, as the Zias built a 30-22 halftime lead.

The Zias also led by eight points, 42-34, with 12:09 remaining in the game. ENMU then went on a 17-0 run over the next 7:57 to increase its lead to 59-34 with just 4:12 left. Eight players scored for ENMU during the run.

Doss was joined in double figures for the Zias by Katheryne Hickman (Sr., F, San Antonio, TX/Castle Hills Baptist H.S.). Hickman scored 10 points — 8 in the first half — and grabbed 6 rebounds. Jody Avent (Sr., G, Stinnett, TX/South Plains College) provided 7 points and earned 4 of ENMU’s 15 steals.

In addition to Doss, three other freshmen made significant contributions to the win. Jill Stout (Fr., G, Sudan, TX/Sudan H.S.) recorded 8 rebounds, Juliana Morrison (Fr., G/F, Amarillo, TX/Palo Duro H.S.) scored 6 points, and Tricia Doherty (Fr., F, Plano, TX/East H.S.) supplied 5 points and 7 boards.

Amy Ziegler led ASC with 9 points, 3 assists and 3 steals. Carrie Miller and Sarah Poole each produced 8 points for the Grizzlies, with Miller adding 6 boards and Poole earning 4 carems. Tara Morrison provided 5 points, 5 rebounds and 3 assists.

The Zias do not play again until they host the Zia Classic at Greyhound Arena on Friday, Dec. 8 and Saturday, Dec. 9. Games will be played at 5:30 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. (MST) both days, with ENMU playing in the late game each evening. The Zias will take on Oklahoma Panhandle State University on Dec. 8, before facing Missouri Southern State College on Dec. 9.
