IVERSON, COLEMAN SCORE 24 POINTS AS ENMU DEFEATS WNMU
85-80 Greyhounds Sweep Series with Mustangs
SILVER CITY, NMKevin Iverson (Jr., G, Chicago, IL/Elgin C.C.) and Garland Coleman (Fr., G/F, Chicago, IL/Homewood-Flossmoor H.S.) scored 24 points each, leading Eastern New Mexico University to an 85-80 victory over Western New Mexico, Dec. 16 in Silver City, N.M. The Greyhounds improved to 3-6, while WNMU dropped to 0-6.

The win allowed the Greyhounds to sweep the season series with the Mustangs. ENMU also defeated WNMU, 96-76, Dec. 7 in Portales, N.M.

Iverson and Coleman were two of three ENMU players who scored more than 20 points in the rematch with Western New Mexico. Freshman point guard Rudy Charles (Las Vegas, NV/ Durango H.S.) also topped the 20-point mark, finishing with 21 points.

Coleman, who made 10 of 14 shots from the field, also grabbed a game-high 12 rebounds. Iverson, playing 37 minutes, was 8 of 13 on field goals and 8 of 10 on free throws. He hauled down 11 rebounds and provided 3 assists. Charles added 6 rebounds, 5 assists and 3 steals.

ENMU was in front most of the game, with WNMU never leading by more than two points. The Greyhounds’ biggest lead was 34-27 in the first half. The Mustangs tied the game, 40-40, but ENMU led 42-40 at halftime.

The Greyhounds took the lead for good with 2:36 remaining in the game, when Charles scored to give ENMU a 77-76 advantage. Charles added another basket with 2:14 left, increasing Eastern’s lead to 79-76. WNMU pulled to within 79-78 with just under two minutes on the clock, but never got as close the rest of the way.

Coleman, Iverson and Charles converted free throws to clinch the win. Charles locked the decision by sinking a pair of free throws with 0:19 remaining, as ENMU took an 84-78 lead.

Eastern sank 32 of 60 field goals (53.3%) and held a 42-33 rebounding edge. WNMU shot just 43.5% from the floor (30 of 66), but made 10 of 26 three-pointers. Antonio Anderson led WNMU with 22 points, including 6 of 11 three-point shots. Nickolas Frey provided 17 points and 7 rebounds, while Doug Barnes supplied 15 points and Mike Witkamp added 10 points.

ENMU is off until Dec. 30, when the Greyhounds will host Wayland Baptist University at Greyhound Arena. Tipoff is set for 7:00 p.m. (MST).
