GARETT WILLIAMS NAMED
TO LSC SOUTH ALL-ACADEMIC TEAM
Ten Greyhounds join Williams on Commissioner’s Honor Roll
PORTALES, NM — Eastern New Mexico University senior linebacker Garett Williams (Monahans, TX/Monahans H.S.) has been voted to the LSC South All-Academic Football Team for the second year in a row. Williams was one of 11 student-athletes chosen for the All-Academic Team from 36 players who qualified for the LSC South Commissioner’s Honor Roll. Selections were made by the LSC South sports information directors, who considered academic and athletic achievements in casting their votes.

The LSC South Commissioner’s Honor Roll included williams and 11 other ENMU players. Student-athletes qualified for the Commissioner’s Honor Roll by earning at least a 3.20 cumulative grade point average in all college level work and by completing a minimum of 24 semester hours at their current college or university. Williams, 6’1” 205 pounds, ranked third on the ENMU squad with 64 total tackles (32 solo, 32 assists) during the 2000 season.

He made 6 tackles for losses, forced 2 fumbles and recovered 2 fumbles. He started all 32 games the past three seasons, and played in 42 games during his four-year career. Williams, who earned 169 career tackles (17 tackles for losses) was an ENMU co-captain in 1999 and 2000.

Williams has achieved a 3.74 GPA and is majoring in Biology (Pre-Medicine). He was named First Team Verizon Academic All-District VII this year, after earning Second Team Academic All-District honors in 1999. He was named to the LSC South All-Academic Team in 1999 and 2000, and qualified for the Commissioner’s Honor Roll three straight years (1998-2000). He earned Honorable Mention All-LSC South honors for his efforts on the field this season.

Also named to the Commissioner’s Honor Roll from ENMU were Aaron Dunnam (So., FB, Wheeler, TX/Wheeler H.S.), David Ethell (So., LB, Albuquerque, NM/Eldorado H.S.), Patrick Ficke (So., DE, Santa Fe, NM/St. Michaels H.S.), Jose Gonzales (So., Andrews, TX/ Andrews H.S.), Tim Isaacs (Jr., DE, Rio Rancho, NM/Cibola H.S.), Dean Jack (So., RB, Alamogordo, NM/Alamogordo H.S.), Jeryl Leaks (Fr., DE, Levelland, TX/Levelland H.S.), Randy Montoya (So., FB, Roswell, NM/Goddard H.S.), Heath Ridenour (So., QB, Lovington, NM/Lovington H.S.), and Adam Springer (So., C, Plainview, TX/Plainview H.S.).

Dunnam is majoring in Physical Education and has a 3.63 GPA. He was named Second Team All-LSC South during the 2000 season after rushing for 329 yards on just 65 carries (5.1 average). He provided excellent blocking and scored two touchdowns for the Greyhounds.

Ethell redshirted in 1998 and has played the past two seasons. He owns a 3.43 GPA and is majoring in Public Relations. He recorded 2 tackles and 1 assist on defense this season. Ficke is working toward a major in Criminal Justice and has a 3.22 GPA. He moved from linebacker to defensive end this season.

Gonzales has earned a 3.23 GPA. He is majoring in Physical Education and is one of several sophomore offensive lineman who have helped the Greyhounds.

Isaacs is a Communication major with a 3.21 GPA at Eastern New Mexico. He has been with the Greyhounds for three seasons.

Jack is pursuing a major in History. He has a 3.39 GPA. He saw limited action during the 2000 season, but helped block for other runners and gained 31 yards on 2 carries. Leaks, who holds a 3.76 GPA, is a Pre-Law major. He was injured for most of the 2000 season.

Montoya is majoring in Mathematics at ENMU. He has earned a 3.45 GPA. Montoya carried the ball 14 times for 40 yards and scored 1 touchdown this season.

Ridenour, who started four games at quarterback during the 2000 season, is majoring in Biology. He owns a 3.67 GPA. Ridenour played in nine games overall, completing 40 of 80 passes for 641 yards and 2 touchdowns. He also rushed for 218 yards on 63 carries. He was named Honorable Mention All-LSC South.

Springer has achieved a 3.25 GPA. He is working on a major in Business Administration. He was a back-up center for the Greyhounds this season.

ENMU finished the 2000 season with an 6-4 overall record. The Greyhounds earned their second consecutive LSC South Division Co-Championship at 4-2, and tied for second place in the overall 13-team LSC standings (5-3 including crossover games). Head Coach Harold “Bud” Elliott was named LSC South Coach-of-the-Year for the third season in a row.
