MIDWESTERN STATE DEFEATS ENMU
PORTALES, NM — Defending Lone Star Conference champion Midwestern State University improved to 19-5 overall and 10-0 in the LSC South with a 104-63 victory over Eastern New Mexico University, Feb. 9 at Greyhound Arena.

MSU shot 59.2% for the game, including 67.6% in the first half. Eastern New Mexico fell to 3-20 overall, 0-11 in the LSC South.

The Indians started the game with a 31-3 run, missing only a few shots while ENMU hit just one of its first 17 attempts. Eastern sank 21 of 50 shots (42.0%) the rest of the game, but couldn’t dent MSU’s lead. Midwestern held a 55-20 halftime lead, and outscored the Greyhounds, 49-43, in the second half.

MSU placed four players in double figures, led by Stephen Mitchell with 20 points. Charlie Bennett scored 14 points, and Jerome Jackson and Doug Beaty each tallied 12 points. Edgar Arteaga chipped in 8 points and led all players with 9 rebounds. Craig Snodgrass provided 7 assists.

The Ridenour brothers from Lovington, New Mexico were Eastern’s top scorers. Heath Ridenour (Fr., G, Lovington H.S.) scored 16 points. Brandon Ridenour (Jr., New Mexico J.C.) connected for 15 points. Heath also grabbed 7 rebounds, while Brandon dished out 5 assists. Rob McCaskill (Jr., F/C, Greenwood, MS/North Lake C.C.) added 11 points.

Both teams were solid at the free throw line. MSU sank 8 of 11 free throws (72.7%), while ENMU made 12 of 16 charity shots (75.0%). Midwestern was 12 of 20 on 3-point shots (60.0%). The Greyhounds were successful on 7 of 22 3-point attempts (31.8%).

ENMU played without freshman standout Keenan Browder (F, Gary, IN/Bishop Noll Institute). Browder missed the game due to the flu.

The Greyhounds’ next game is at West Texas A&M University on Sat., Feb. 12. Tipoff in Canyon, Texas is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. (Mountain Time).
