TEXAS A&M OUTSCORES GREYHOUNDS, 14-9 The Buffaloes improved to 2-5 overall, and the Greyhounds fell to 2-6. West Texas fell behind 2-0 after one-half inning, but tied the game in the bottom of the first, and took a 7-2 lead with 5 runs in the second. Marcus Glass provided the big hit of the second inning, a grand slam homer to right center. Glass finished the game 2 for 5 overall, with 2 runs scored an 5 RBIs. ENMU later trailed 10-4, but used a 5-run fifth inning to pull within a single run. Matt Masiarek (Sr., DH, Brisbane, Australia/Lamar C.C.), who hit a two-run homer in the third inning, singled and scored in the fifth. Matt Brown (Jr., C, Napa, CA/Diablo Valley College) hit a 2-run double during the inning, while David Jones (Jr., SS, Sierra Vista, AZ/Eastern Arizona College) drove in another run with a double and Andy Hostetler (So., CF, Albuquerque, NM/ Valley H.S.) hit an RBI-single. Steven Romano (Fr., 3B, Las Cruces, NM/Las Cruces H.S.) brought in the other run with a sacrifice fly. The Buffaloes extended their lead to 14-9 by scoring two times in the sixth inning and two more times in the seventh inning. Ben Hangartner homered in the 6th and Steve Henderson homered in the 7th. During the game, four Buffs hit homers, including a 2-run shot by Brian Evans in the first inning. ENMU stranded 13 runners, while West Texas A&M left 6 runners on base. The Hounds were strong defensively, turning 3 double plays and concluding the game without an error. Masiarek was 3 for 4 overall for ENMU. He scored 2 runs and drove in 3 more. Chris Stewart (Jr., OF, Albuquerque, NM/Manzano H.S.) was 2 for 3, and Jones went 2 for 5. Hostetler also finished with 2 hits. The 9-inning contest was the first Tri-State game for both teams. Other teams participating in Tri-State Baseball are Wayland Baptist, Lubbock Christian, College of the Southwest and Oklahoma Panhandle State. ENMU and West Texas are members of the Lone Star Conference, Wayland and Lubbock compete in the Sooner Conference and OPSU is an independent. Eastern is idle until next Tuesday (Feb. 22), when the Greyhounds take on College of the Southwest in a pair of Tri-State games in Hobbs, N.M. First pitch is set for 12:00 p.m. (MST). |
