TAMU-KINGSVILLE DOWNS EASTERN NEW MEXICO
KINGSVILLE, TX — Texas A&M University-Kingsville shot 51.4% in the second half and defeated Eastern New Mexico University, 92-57, in a Lone Star Conference South Division game, Feb. 17 in Kingsville, Texas.

With the win, TAMU-Kingsville improved to 15-10 overall and to 8-5 in the LSC South. ENMU fell to 3-22, 0-13 in the LSC South.

The Javelinas led by just four points, 30-26, with 7:39 remaining in the first half, after Chris Gonzales (Jr., G, Albuquerque, NM/La Cueva H.S.) nailed a 3-pointer for ENMU. TAMU-Kingsville finished the half with a 13-5 run for a 43-31 halftime advantage. Eastern New Mexico recorded the first basket of the second half, but TAMUK scored the next 15 points to take a 58-33 lead with 16:10 remaining.

The run began with a 3-pointer by Quincy Sims and ended with a 3-pointer by Randy Phoenix. Phoenix led all scorers with 21 points (5 three-pointers). He also brought down 5 boards, provided 4 assists and earned 4 steals. John Day contributed 15 points and 13 rebounds, while Elliot Magee supplied 13 points. Terry Allen and J.J. Caballero tallied 10 points each.

For ENMU, Cord Wilburn (Sr., G, Artesia, NM/Otero J.C.) led the way with 14 points, 4 rebounds, 3 assists, and 3 steals. Rob McCaskill (Jr., F/C, Greenwood, MI/North Lake C.C.) scored 11 points, and Edwin Quintana (So., G, Albuquerque, NM/Eldorado H.S.) dished out 6 assists to go with 3 steals.

TAMUK shot 48.6% for the game, connecting on 34 of 70 shots (12 of 25 three-pointers). The Javelinas limited ENMU to 45.8%, as the Greyhounds sank 22 of 48 shots from the field. TAMUK achieved a large rebounding margin, recording 45 boards to just 21 for ENMU.

Eastern New Mexico will conclude the season on Thur., Feb. 24, when the Greyhounds host Texas A&M University-Commerce. Tipoff at Greyhound Arena is set for 8:00 p.m. (MST).
