ZIAS SPLIT PAIR OF GAMES ON OPENING DAY OF LSC FIRST PITCH TOURNAMENT
IRVING, TX — The Eastern New Mexico University softball team went 1-1 on the opening day of the Lone Star Conference First Pitch Tournament, Fri., Feb. 18 at Irving, Texas. ENMU lost to Central Oklahoma, 5-3, but defeated East Central (Okla.), 4-1, to improve to 7-5 on the season. The LSC First Pitch Tournament continues on Sat., Feb. 19.

In the opener, ENMU took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning, but UCO rallied with single runs in the second and third innings, plus two runs in the fourth. The Lady Bronchos upped their advantage to 5-1 with two runs in the sixth.

ENMU scored twice in the top of the seventh inning, but was unable to complete the rally. Rachel Mohler (So., 3B, Las Vegas, NV/Green Valley H.S.) drove in Eastern’s runs in the seventh with a 2-run homer.

Sarah Rempp (Jr., SS, Greeley, CO/Central H.S.) recorded 3 hits, including a triple, in 4 at bats. Nicole Archibeque (Fr., OF, Albuquerque, NM/Valley H.S.) added 3 hits in 3 at bats for the Zias.

In the second game, ENMU scored twice in the fifth inning on a 2-run homer by Rempp. It was her fourth home run of the season. The Zias increased their lead to 3-0 with one run in the sixth inning.

East Central cut the deficit to 3-1 before the Zias concluded the scoring with a run in the top of the seventh. Rempp was 2 for 4 in the second game, and finished the day with 5 hits in 8 at bats. Mohler was 3 for 4 against East Central, while Seitzinger supplied a triple against the Tigers.

ENMU is scheduled to play Northeastern State (Okla.) and Southeastern Oklahoma on Saturday (Feb. 19). The LSC First Pitch Tournament matches teams from the LSC North Division against teams from the LSC South Division. The games do not count in the LSC divisional standings.
