ZIAS DOWN DEFENDING LSC CHAMP SE OKLAHOMA ON SECOND DAY OF LSC FAST PITCH TOURNAMENT
IRVING, TX — The Eastern New Mexico Zias, who upset the #2-ranked team in NCAA Division II, Nebraska-Kearney, last weekend, knocked off defending Lone Star Conference champion Southeastern Oklahoma, 3-0, Saturday, on the final day of the LSC First Pitch Tournament in Irving, Texas.

In other tournament action on Saturday, the Zias lost to Northeastern State (Okla.), 3-2. The Zias are 8-6 on the season. Adrienne Conner pitched a complete game shutout against Southeastern Oklahoma. She allowed eight hits, but all were singles.

The ENMU defense committed just one error, while Southeastern Oklahoma recorded three defensive mistakes. With the win, Conner improved to 4-1 on the season. Starla Payne dropped to 5-1 for for the Lady Savages after suffering her first loss of the season.

The Zias received 2 hits in 3 at bats from three playes: Enida Rosales (Sr., 2B, Glendale, AZ/South Mountain College), Suzy Seitzinger (Jr., OF/P, Bloomfield, NM/Bloomfield H.S.) and Rachel Mohler (So., 3B, Las Vegas, NV/Green Valley H.S.). Mohler drove in Rosales on an RBI-double in the fifth inning. Seitzinger and junior center fielder Kim Paschall (Midland, TX/ Midland H.S.) each scored on an error in the second inning to give the Zias a 2-0 lead. Erica Sussex (Jr., SS, Bloomfield, NM/Bloomfield H.S.) also hit a double for ENMU.

Kelly Baker and Adrienne Stoops each went 2 for 3 for Southeastern Oklahoma. Against Northeastern State, the Zias recorded 10 hits, while Seitzinger allowed just 5 hits by the Lady Reds. Even so, NSU escaped with the victory.

The Lady Reds trailed 1-0 after the first inning, but scored twice in the second inning and once in the fifth stanza to build a 3-1 lead.

The Zias return to action on Wed., Feb. 23, when they host New Mexico State in a double-header at Zia Softball Field. First pitch is slated for 1:00 p.m. (MST).
