FALL TO ANGELO STATE, 87-71 The Lone Star Conference South Division victory upped ASU’s record to 14-6 overall and 4-4 in the LSC. Eastern fell to 3-18, 0-9 in the LSC. Stengem recorded his first double-double of the season, He was 7 of 11 on field goals, including 1 of 1 on 3-point shots. He played 37 minutes, and finished with just 1 turnover. ASU used a 6-0 run midway through the first half to turn a 23-18 lead at the 10:18 mark into a 29-18 advantage with 7:04 remaining in the half. The Greyhounds never got closer than 8 points in the first half, as ASU claimed a 42-32 halftime advantage. The Rams’ lead moved between 8 points and 13 points for most of the second half. ENMU trailed by just 7 points, 46-39, following a layup by Stengem at the 15:52 mark of the second half. The Greyhounds never got closer, as ASU maintained between an 8-point and a 16-point lead for most of the second half. Angelo State’s top scorer was Shane Krause, who tallied 19 points on 8 of 13 field goals. Cameron Henderson added 17 points and 8 rebounds, while Dexter Young tallied 16 points, earned 8 assists and provided 5 boards. Mark Oliver scored 10 points, and Terry Murray grabbed 10 rebounds. Eastern placed three players in double figures. Joining Stengem with double-digit point total were Cord Wilburn (Sr., G, Artesia, NM/Otero J.C.), with 18 points and 6 boards, and Keenan Browder (Fr., F, Gary, IN/Bishop Noll Institute), with 11 points and 2 blocks. The Rams finished with a 45-35 rebounding edge, while sinking 38 of 76 field goals. ENMU was limited to 41.7% from the floor (25 of 60). Both teams protected the ball, with the Greyhounds committing just 10 turnovers and ASU losing the ball 9 times. ENMU remains at home for another LSC South Division game on Saturday (Feb. 5).
