LUBBOCK CHRISTIAN DEFEATS GREYHOUNDS
PORTALES, NM — Lubbock Christian University scored five runs in the third inning, and added four runs in the fourth inning, to break open a close game and pull away from Eastern New Mexico University for a 24-3 victory Feb. 29 at Greyhound Field.

The Chaparrals improved to 13-5 on the season. ENMU dropped to 4-9-1.

LCU scored two runs in the top of the second inning for an early lead. The Greyhounds countered with one run in the bottom of the inning, leaving LCU with a 2-1 advantage at the start of the third stanza. Things changed quickly, as LCU built an 11-1 lead after four innings and a 22-3 after six innings.

Designated hitter Britt Harper led the Chaparrals with three home runs, including a pair of grand slams. He hit a two-run homer in the third inning, then added four-run homers in the fourth and sixth innings. Harper finished with 3 hits in 4 at bats, while scoring 4 runs and recording 10 RBIs.

Jason Dean also hit a home run for LCU. His solo homer came immediately after Harper’s two-run shot in the third inning. Dean was 2 for 5 overall, and scored twice. Gabe Flores provided the Chaps with 3 hits in 5 at bats. He also scored 4 times and drove in two runs.

Steven Leist, Stan Whittle and Ray Ibarra contributed 3 hits apiece. Leist recorded 3 RBIs, while Whittle and Ibarra each drove in 2 runs. Starting pitcher Reagan Lockridge (1-0) was credited with the win.

Andy Hostetler (So., OF, Albuquerque, NM/Valley H.S.) was 2 for 4 for Eastern New Mexico, and Steven Romano (Fr., 3B, Las Cruces, NM/N.M. State) went 2 for 3 with a double, an RBI and a run scored.

Junior shortstop David Jones (Sierra Vista, AZ/Eastern Arizona) hit an RBI-double in the fifth inning. Starter Cory Barker suffered the pitching loss and fell to 0-2. Lubbock Christian recorded 21 hits during the game. The Chaparrals also benefited from 7 walks and four hit batsmen. LCU limited the ENMU offense to just 6 hits.

ENMU returns to action on Friday and Saturday (Mar. 3-4) at the Lone Star Conference 1st Pitch Tournament in Stephenville, Texas. The Greyhounds and other LSC South teams will take on teams from the LSC North. ENMU is scheduled to play East Central at 12:00 p.m. (MST) on Friday.

On Saturday, the Greyhounds will take on Southwestern Oklahoma at 8:00 a.m. (MST) and Central Oklahoma at 1:00 p.m. (MST). The crossover games will not count in the LSC divisional standings.
