KATHERYNE HICKMAN NAMED
LSC SOUTH DIVISION PLAYER-OF-THE-WEEK

PORTALES, NM — Eastern New Mexico University junior post/forward Katheryne Hickman (6’0”, San Antonio, TX/Castle Hills First Baptist H.S.) has been named Lone Star Conference women’s basketball South Division Player-of-the-Week for the week ending Jan. 22.

Hickman helped the Zias earn a 3-0 record during the week, including a 69-66 victory over division-leading Texas A&M-Kingsville, which entered the game on Jan. 22 with an undefeated record (7-0) in the LSC. The Zias defeated TAMUK at Greyhound Arena, where Eastern is 5-1 this season.

ENMU also won two games on the road, defeating Texas Woman’s University, 87-74, on Jan. 17 and downing Texas A&M-Commerce, 85-79 on Jan. 18. The Zias are 10-6 overall, 4-3 in the LSC South. ENMU is tied with three other teams for third place in the division.

Hickman averaged 18.7 points and 4.3 rebounds during the week. She shot 63.3% from the field (19 of 30), including 58.3% from 3-point range (7 of 12). Hickman also converted 11 of 12 free throw attempts (91.7%). She scored a career high 29 points on 9 of 16 field goals (6 of 10 3-pointers) in Eastern’s win over Texas A&M-Commerce. She scored 12 points against Texas Woman’s (6 of 7 FG) and added 15 points against TAMU-Kingsville (4 of 7 FG, 6 of 7 FTs).

For the season, Hickman leads the Zias with 11.3 points per game. She is tied for fifth in the LSC in free throws, converting 39 of 45 for 86.7%. Hickman was also named LSC South Player-of-the-Week almost exactly a year ago. She received the award for her performance during the week ending Jan. 17, 1999, after helping the Zias win three LSC road games in three days. She was chosen Honorable Mention All-LSC at the end of the 1998-99 season.

This year’s ENMU team plays its next two games on the road, as the Zias take on Midwestern State on Thur., Jan. 27 (4:30 p.m. MST), then play Tarleton State on Sat., Jan. 29 (5:00 p.m. MST). The Zias return home to host Oklahoma Panhandle State in a non-conference game on Mon., Jan. 31 at 6:00 p.m. (MST).
