MIDWESTERN STATE DEFEATS GREYHOUNDS MSU upped its overall record to 16-5 with the win. ENMU fell to 3-16 overall and 0-7 in conference play. Midwestern State quickly built a 20-2 lead and held a 39-8 advantage with 8:45 remaining in the first half. The Greyhounds went on a 24-10 run, cutting the deficit to 17 points, 49-32, at the half. The Indians opened the second half with a 17-2 run for a 66-34 lead. MSU maintained a solid advantage throughout the final 20 minutes. ENMU’s top scorer was junior guard Chris Gonzales (Albuquerque, NM/New Mexico State), who scored 26 points and connected on 8 of 13 three-point shots. The 26 points were a personal high for Gonzales since joining the team at semester. His 8 three-pointers were just two short of the ENMU record of 10, set by Matt Vail against West Texas A&M last year. Other double-digit scorers for the Greyhounds were Rob McCaskill (Jr., F/C, Greenwood, MS/North Lake C.C.) and Heath Ridenour (Fr., G, Lovington, NM/Lovington H.S.) with 14 points each, and senior point guard Cord Wilburn (Artesia, NM/Otero J.C.) with 11 points. Keenan Browder (Fr., F, Gary, IN/Bishop Noll Inst.) and Kevin Stengem (Jr., F/C, Southlake, TX/North Lake C.C.) grabbed 7 rebounds apiece. Arteaga led five MSU players in double figures. Other top scorers were Rodney Beasley with 14 points, Doug Beaty with 12 points, and Jerome Jackson and Allen Wells with 11 points each. Craig Snodgrass led all players with 7 assists. ENMU’s next game is at Tarleton State University on Sat., Jan. 29. Tipoff in Stephenville, Texas for the LSC South Division game is set for 7:00 p.m. (MST). |
