PATRICK McCURRY NAMED CROSS COUNTRY COACH
PORTALES, NM — Patrick McCurry, who qualified for the NAIA National Cross Country Championships all four years as a student at Eastern Oregon University, has been named head men’s and women’s cross country coach at Eastern New Mexico University, Athletic Director Rosie Stallman announced today.

McCurry will begin his duties at ENMU on August 1. Eastern New Mexico is a member of the Lone Star Conference and competes in NCAA Division II in all sports. The Greyhounds and the Zias will report for preseason workouts on August 19.

McCurry also qualified for the NAIA National Indoor Track and Field Championships and the NAIA National Outdoor Track and Field Championships two times each. He also represented Eastern Oregon at the NCAA Division III National Outdoor Track and Field Championships earlier this year. Eastern Oregon is a dual member of NCAA Division III and the NAIA.

“We are really excited about adding Patrick to our coaching staff,” Stallman said. “He brings tremendous enthusiasm for running, and he will be a great coach for our athletes competing in men’s and women’s cross country.”

McCurry joins the ENMU coaching staff after serving as an assistant track coach at Bishop Kelly High School (Idaho) for one year and at Powder Valley High School (Oregon) for two seasons. He was a student assistant coach at Eastern Oregon for two years, and has worked as an independent running consultant for athletes who have completed their collegiate eligibility.

He won the Cascade Collegiate Conference title in the 5000-meter run twice and was a CCC All-Conference selection in cross country in 1998. He received Eastern Oregon’s Most Inspirational Award in cross country in 1997. McCurry was ranked in the Top 5 nationally in the 10-kilometer run in both the NAIA and NCAA Division III this past spring.

McCurry completed work toward a Bachelor of Arts degree in Politics, Philosophy and Economics at Eastern Oregon in June. He will pursue a Master of Science degree in Physical Education with an emphasis in Sport Administration at ENMU.
