GREYHOUNDS COMPLETE SWEEP OF NMHU
LAS VEGAS, NM — Eastern New Mexico University broke a 4-4 tie with two runs in the sixth inning, as the Greyhounds defeated New Mexico Highlands, 6-4, Mar. 12, to sweep a three-game series at NMHU.

The Greyhounds, now 9-10-1 on the season, have won 4 of 6 games against the Cowboys this season. NMHU fell to 12-8.

Eastern New Mexico trailed 2-0 after one inning and 3-1 after four innings. The Hounds rallied with 3 runs in the top of the fifth for a 4-3 lead, but NMHU tied the game with a solo run in the bottom of the inning.

After the Greyhounds regained the lead with 2 runs in the sixth, the victory was clinched by the solid pitching of reliever Tim King (Jr., Carlsbad, NM/Carlsbad H.S.). King shut out the Cowboys in the final three innings, allowing just one hit. He earned a save for his efforts.

ENMU starting pitcher Chris Stewart (Jr., Albuquerque, NM/Manzano H.S.) threw 6 innings for the Hounds. He struck out 4 batters, while allowing just 6 hits and improving to 3-2 on the season. Stewart and King did not walk a batter during the 9-inning game.

Zac Viselli of NMHU threw a complete game, and allowed just 8 hits, but fell to 3-2 on the season. He recorded 7 strikeouts and gave up 1 walk.

Andy Hostetler (So., CF, Albuquerque, NM/Valley H.S.) led the Greyhounds on offense, blasting a home run and a double. He was 3 for 4 at the plate, while driving in 4 runs. Five other ENMU players recorded one hit apiece, including a double by senior left fielder Joe Clabaugh (Mustang, OK/Western Oklahoma State).

NMHU’s top offensive threat was right fielder Mike Hansen, who tripled and went 3 for 4 at the plate. The Cowboys also received 2 hits in 4 at bats from second baseman Adam Viramontes. Viramontes was 2 for 2 on stolen base attempts, helping NMHU earn 5 steals on the day. Neil Rebell contributed a double in four at bats.

ENMU concluded the 3-game series with 48 hits and 9 home runs in 24 innings. The Greyhounds smacked 5 homers in the first game, then added 3 homers in the second game, before receiving Hostetler’s first homer of the season this afternoon.

The Greyhounds return to action on Tues., Mar. 14 with a double-header at Oklahoma Panhandle State University. Game time for the first game is set for 11:00 a.m. in Goodwell, Okla.
