ENMU WINS TWO GAMES AT OPSU, 3-1 AND 10-1
Zias Break 1-1 Tie in 7th Inning of Opener

GOODWELL, OK — Eastern New Mexico University scored two runs in the top of the seventh inning to earn a 3-1 victory over Oklahoma Panhandle State University in the first game of a double-header, Mar. 14 at OPSU. The Zias completed the double-header sweep by scoring 9 runs in the first inning of the second game on their way to a 10-1 triumph.

ENMU upped its overall record to 18-12 on the season. The Zias have won 7 of their last 10 games, despite playing 4 games on the road and the remaining 6 games in a tournament at the University of the Incarnate Word.

In the opening game at OPSU, the Zias took a 1-0 lead with a run the third inning. Senior second baseman Enida Rosales (Glendale, AZ/South Mountain College) started the inning with a single, and later scored when sophomore third baseman Rachel Mohler (Las Vegas, NV/Green Valley H.S.) doubled to center field.

The Lady Aggies tied the game in the bottom of the fourth. Courtney Williams singled with one out, then scored three batters later when Janet Ortiz hit into a fielder’s choice.

The Zias secured the win by scoring 2 runs on five hits in the seventh inning. Mohler hit a one-out single to drive in Erica Sussex (Jr., Utility, Bloomfield, NM/Bloomfield H.S.) with the go-ahead run. OPSU also committed an error on the play, allowing Sarah Rempp (Jr., SS, Greeley, CO/Central H.S.) to cross the plate with an insurance run.

ENMU pitcher Jennifer Harrer (Jr., Albuquerque, NM/Hope Christian H.S.) recorded her sixth straight win to improve to 6-3. She threw all seven innings and struck out 5 batters. She gave up a single to Jenn Hartley to start the seventh, but Hartley was thrown out attempting to steal second. Harrer then registered a strikeout before forcing a fly out to end the game.

Mohler led ENMU in the opener, with 3 hits in 4 at bats. Kim Paschall (Jr., CF, Midland, TX/Midland H.S.) contributed 2 hits in 4 at bats. Andrea Limoges and Williams each provided 2 hits for Panhandle State.

The Zias took charge of the second game in the first inning. ENMU plated 9 runs during the stanza, as Paschall hit a bases-clearing triple and Rempp drove in two additional runs with a triple of her own. The Zias pounded out 7 hits during the inning. ENMU added another run in the second inning for a 10-0 lead. Panhandle State scored its only run in the fifth inning, as Hartley drove in Tiara Kissam with a double to left field. The game was ended by the run rule after five innings.

Dawn Hunt (Fr., P, Carlsbad, NM/Carlsbad H.S.) was the winning pitcher, improving her record to 3-0. Hunt also hit a double, scored a run and recorded an RBI in two at bats. Rosales, Paschall and junior catcher Rachel Valenzuela (Mesa, AZ/South Mountain C.C.) each recorded 2 hits in three at bats for ENMU. Kathy Montoya was 2 for 2 for OPSU.

Eastern New Mexico does not play again until Mar. 20-21, when the Zias will play a pair of double-headers at Western New Mexico University. First pitch in Silver City, N.M. is scheduled for 1:00 p.m. (MST) both days.
