ZIAS WIN ONE, LOSE ONE IN BRACKET PLAY
SAN ANTONIO, TX — Eastern New Mexico defeated East Central (Okla.), 7-2, in the first round, but lost to the University of Mobile, 5-1, in the second round, during single elimination play Mar. 11 at the Incarnate Word Tournament. ENMU finished the 3-day tournament with 3-3 record.

The Zias are 16-12 overall this season. The Zias built a 6-0 lead over the first two innings against East Central. Eastern tallied 4 runs in the first inning then added 2 runs in the second stanza. Sarah Rempp (Jr., SS, Greeley, CO/Central H.S.) hit a two-run homer and Rachel Mohler (So., 3B, Las Vegas, NV/Green Valley H.S.) added a solo homer, both in the first inning. Dawn Hunt (Fr., 1B, Carlsbad, NM/Carlsbad H.S.) brought in the fourth run with a sacrifice fly. Rempp singled and scored on an error in the second inning. Kim Paschall (Jr., CF, Midland, TX/Midland H.S.) drove in the sixth run with a double to left field.

East Central pulled within 6-2 on two runs in the sixth inning. Sarah Roberts hit a double to left field to bring in the first run. She also scored later in the inning on a sacrifice fly.

ENMU scored the final run in the bottom of the sixth. Nicole Archibeque (Fr., LF, Albuquerque, NM/Valley H.S.) reached on a fielder’s choice and scored two batters later, on a single by Rempp. Rempp was 3 for 4 with 2 runs and 3 RBIs. Paschall also finished the game 3 for 4, while Mohler went 2 for 3 with a homer and a triple. Junior pitcher Jennifer Harrer (Albuquerque, NM/ Hope Christian H.S.) struck out 10 batters in recording the win. She improved to 5-3 on the season.

ENMU fell behind Mobile in the first inning, as the Lady Rams put two runs across the plate. Mobile increased its lead to 4-0 with two runs in the second inning. The Zias scored one run in the top of the fourth, but the Lady Rams countered with their fifth run of the game in the bottom of the inning.

Mobile recorded 10 hits during the game, but they were all singles. Rempp produced the only extra-base hit, a triple to lead off the fourth inning. Rempp went on to score ENMU’s only run. Paschall was perfect at the plate, earning 3 hits in 3 at bats for the Zias.
