MATT MASIAREK, LSC SOUTH HITTER-OF-THE-WEEK
PORTALES, NM — Eastern New Mexico University senior designated hitter Matt Masiarek (Brisbane, Australia/Lamar C.C.) has been named Lone Star Conference South Division Hitter-of-the-Week for the week ending Mar. 12. Masiarek helped the Greyhounds sweep a three- game road series with New Mexico Highlands, as ENMU improved to 9-10-1 on the season.

Masiarek batted an impressive .636 during the week, pounding out 7 hits in 11 at bats. He hit three home runs — two in the same game — to finish the week tied for the team lead with 4 homers on the season. He also scored 4 runs and recorded 6 RBIs.

ENMU won two games with NMHU on Sat., Mar. 11, routing the Cowboys in the opener, 15-5, then rallying from a 6-0 deficit to claim a 13-7 win in eight innings. The Greyhounds swept the series by downing Highlands, 6-4 on Sun., Mar. 12.

Eastern New Mexico has won 5 of its last 6 games. Masiarek currently ranks third on the team with a .408 batting average. He leads the squad with a .714 slugging percentage and is tied for the lead with a .492 on-base percentage. He has been perfect in several games at first base, recording 16 putouts, 1 assist and no errors.

The Greyhounds play a double-header at Lubbock Christian University on Sat., Mar. 18. First pitch in the opening game is set for 1:00 p.m. (MST). ENMU returns home on Tues., Mar. 21, to take on West Texas A&M in a single 9-inning game at 1:00 p.m. (MST).
