HAWK HARRIS NAMED GTE ACADEMIC ALL-DISTRICT
Cross Country Runner is named to Fall/Winter At-Large Team

PORTALES, NM Eastern New Mexico University’s top cross country runner, junior Hawk Harris (Hobbs, NM/Hobbs H.S.), has been named to the GTE Academic All-District VI Men’s Fall/Winter College Division At-Large Team. The Academic All-District team was selected by members of the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).

Harris and seven other athletes chosen First Team All-District VI are eligible for GTE Academic All-America honors. The College Division includes players in NCAA Division II, NCAA Division III and the NAIA.

The Greyhounds, led by Head Coach David Segura (1st year), compete in NCAA Division II and the Lone Star Conference. The Fall/Winter At-Large Team includes athletes competing in the fall or winter in sports other than football and basketball, which have their own GTE Academic All-District and GTE Academic All-America teams.

CoSIDA District VI includes colleges and universities in New Mexico, Arkansas, Louisiana, Mississippi, Oklahoma and Texas. Players nominated for the GTE Academic All-District Team were starters or key reserves with cumulative grade point averages of 3.2 or higher (4.0 scale). Each player had to be at his current college or university for at least one full year.

Harris, who is majoring in Physical Education with a minor in History, was a team leader for the Greyhounds during the 2000 season. He placed 15th at the Lone Star Conference Cross Country Meet. His best time for an 8K race was 26:59 at the LSC Meet.

Harris also took 3rd place at the Fort Lewis Invitational and finished 4th at the West Texas A&M Meet. He was 13th at the Texas Tech Invitational and earned 14th place at New Mexico Highlands.
