SEITZINGER DRIVES IN 4 RUNS IN SECOND GAME AS ZIAS SPLIT DOUBLE-HEADER
WITH TARLETON The TexAnns, now 27-15 on the season, won the first game, 9-4. With the win in the second game, ENMU improved to 20-18 overall. Eastern and TSU split the four-game weekend series. Both teams are 2-2 in the Lone Star Conference South Division, and are tied with Abilene Christian and Texas Woman’s for first place. ACU and TWU also split four games this weekend. Texas A&M-Kingsville, the remaining team in the LSC South, has not yet opened LSC play. Seitzinger finished the second game 3 for 3 at the plate. Her doubles drove in 2 runs in the first inning and 2 more in the third inning, as the Zias built a 4-0 lead. Dawn Hunt (Fr., 1B/P, Carlsbad, NM/Carlsbad H.S.) also hit a double for ENMU in the third. Tarleton State pulled within 4-3 by scoring 3 times in the fourth inning. The TexAnns recorded just 2 hits -- both singles -- but also hit two sacrifice bunts. Each bunt led to a fielder’s choice, as ENMU tried unsuccessfully to put out the lead runner. A wild pitch and a hit batsman also contributed to TSU’s success during the inning. The Zias added an insurance run in the bottom of the fourth. Pitcher Adrienne Conner (Sr., Prescott, AZ/Glendale College) received a base on balls with one out. Conner advanced to second, when Enida Rosales (Sr., 2B Glendale, AZ/South Mountain College) also walked. Katie Call (Sr., OF, Albuquerque, NM/Cibola H.S.) pinch-ran for Conner at second, and scored on a two-out single by Sarah Rempp (Jr., SS, Greeley, CO/Central H.S.). ENMU just missed adding two more runs in the sixth inning. Third baseman Rachel Mohler (So., Las Vegas, NV/Green Valley H.S.) blasted a fly ball to left field that sailed over the fence but was ruled foul. Nicole Archibeque (Fr., LF, Albuquerque, NM/Valley H.S.) was on first at the time. Mohler eventually singled, but ENMU was unable to score. Rempp finished the game 1 for 2 with 2 runs and an RBI. Hunt also went 1 for 2 for the Zias. TSU was led by designated hitter Alicia Petersma, who was 3 for 3 with an RBI. Conner pitched all 7 innings for ENMU. She struck out 3 batters and allowed 2 walks, while evening her season record at 7-7. Jill Ratliff (14-4) suffered the loss for Tarleton State. TSU took a quick 4-0 lead in the opener. Gracie Villa’s 2-run triple was the only hit of the inning. TSU also benefited from 4 walks, 2 passed balls, a wild pitch and an error. Eastern cut the deficit in half by scoring twice in the bottom of the inning. Rosales reached second on a single and an error, then advance to third on a single by Mohler. A passed ball allowed Rosales to score and advanced Mohler to third. Mohler also scored when Kim Paschall (Jr., CF, Midland, TX/Midland H.S.) reached first on an error. Tarleton State increased its advantage to 8-2 by scoring twice in the second inning and two more times in the third. ENMU scored a run during the fifth inning, as Paschall drove in Mohler with a single to right. TSU took a 9-3 lead by scoring once in the top of the sixth. Rempp of ENMU completed the scoring in the seventh, as she hit a solo home run to left. It was her seventh home run of the season, and allowed her to finish the game 3 for 4 at the plate. Mohler, Paschall and Seitzinger were all 2 for 4 during the game. Villa was 2 for 4 with 3 RBIs and a run scored in the opener. Julie Tergerson added 2 hits in 2 at bats for the TexAnns. ENMU does not play again until next weekend, when the Zias travel to Texas A&M-Kingsville. The Zias and the Lady Javelinas will play a double-header at 12:00 p.m. (MST) on Fri., Mar 31, followed by another twinbill on Sat., Apr. 1 at 11:00 a.m. (MST). |
