GREYHOUNDS SPLIT DOUBLE-HEADER
STEPHENVILLE, TX — The University of Central Oklahoma scored 4 runs in the third inning to overcome a 1-0 deficit and went on to defeat Eastern New Mexico University, 8-2, Mar. 4 at the Lone Star Conference First Pitch Tournament hosted by Tarleton State University.

UCO upped its overall record to 10-4. ENMU slipped to 6-10-1 on the season.

Eastern took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning. UCO rallied two innings later, led by Rothy Briggs’ two-run homer. The Bronchos remained in front 4-1 until the seventh inning, when UCO scored four more runs.

ENMU closed out the scoring with a run in the bottom of the seventh inning. Brent Smerczynski recorded the win for Central Oklahoma. ENMU starter Jerry Macias (Fr., Las Cruces, NM/Las Cruces H.S.) fell to 2-2 with the loss.

The Greyhounds recorded 7 hits compared to just 6 hits for the Bronchos, but ENMU also committed 3 errors. UCO’s defense did not make an error during the game.

The LSC First Pitch Tournament provided an chance for LSC South Division teams to play LSC North Division squads. ENMU went 2-1 in the tournament, defeating East Central, 14-0, and downing Southwestern Oklahoma, 9-1, before losing to Central Oklahoma. LSC First Pitch Tournament games do not count in the LSC standings.

ENMU returns to action on Tues., Mar. 7 in a Tri-State Baseball double-header at Wayland Baptist University. Game time in Plainview, Texas is slated for 12:00 noon (MST).
