BOBBY WALLIN NAMED TO LSC SOUTH ALL-ACADEMIC TEAM
Six Zias Qualify for Commissioner’s Honor Roll

PORTALES, NM — Eastern New Mexico University junior post player Bobbie Wallin (6’1”, Moriarty, NM/Moriarty H.S.) has been named to the Lone Star Conference South Division All-Academic Team for the 1999-2000 season as selected by the LSC South sports information directors. Student-athletes were chosen for the All-Academic Team based upon their academic and athletic success.

Wallin and five other Zias also qualified for the LSC South Commissioner’s Honor Roll. Starters and key reserves with at least a 3.2 grade point average and 24 semester hours at an LSC member institution were eligible for the Honor Roll, which recognized a total of 27 players from all nine LSC South teams.

ENMU led the LSC South with six players on the Honor Roll. Wallin, a Biology major with a 3.67 cumulative GPA, led the Zias with 156 rebounds, an average of 5.8 rebounds per game. She also averaged 7.5 points per game, with 203 points in 27 games. She started 26 games, earned 27 steals and blocked 8 shots. Wallin has provided 605 career points and 459 career rebounds for the Zias.

Other ENMU players who qualified for the LSC South Commissioner’s Honor Roll were Breanne Baker (Jr., 5’9”, G/F, Sudan, TX/Sudan H.S.), Brandi Bates (Jr., 5’8”, G/F, Plainview, TX/Plainview H.S.), Jenny Conaway (Sr., 6’0”, Post, Midland, TX/South Plains College), Lenni Hartley (Jr., 5’7”, G, Roy, NM/Roy H.S.) and Katheryne Hickman (Jr., 6’0”, P/F, San Antonio, TX/Castle Hills Baptist H.S.).

Baker, who is majoring in Early Childhood Development and has a 3.53 cumulative GPA, played in all 27 games. She provided 2.0 points per game and 1.3 rebounds per game. Baker also earned 17 assists and 12 steals.

Bates, an Accounting major (3.52 GPA) started all 27 games and was second on the team in scoring. She totaled 295 points and averaged 10.9 points per game. She added 118 rebounds (4.4 avg.), and led the team with 43 steals (1.6 avg.). She scored a career-high 23 points at Angelo State on Jan. 10. She was named Second Team All-LSC South for her on-the-court efforts.

Conaway, who is majoring in Physical Education (3.51 GPA), played in 26 of 27 games. She played post for ENMU, and provided the Zias with 4.9 points and 3.8 rebounds per game. She also was credited with 14 steals. In two seasons at ENMU, she scored 280 points and grabbed 204 rebounds.

Hartley, a Communications major (3.24 GPA), saw action in 26 of ENMU’s 27 games. She averaged 3.1 points and 2.5 rebounds per game. Hartley dished out 23 assists, earned 33 steals and made key contributions to Eastern’s defensive efforts. The Zias allowed just 62.4 points per game.

Hickman led the Zias with 307 points, an average of 12.3 points per game. She also shot 40.0% (32 of 80) from 3-point range and ranked 6th in the LSC in free throw shooting (61 of 75, 81.3%). She averaged 5.0 rebounds per game in 25 games played (14 starts). She scored a career-high 29 points at Texas A&M-Commerce on Jan. 18. She is currently 15th on ENMU’s all-time scoring list with 786 points.

Hickman, an Honorable Mention All-LSC South pick the past two years for her athletic ability, is majoring in Communications (3.41 GPA) at ENMU.

The Zias had an outstanding 1999-2000 season, and finished the year with a 17-10 overall record. ENMU earned third place in the LSC South (10-6) and qualified for the LSC Tournament for the 13th consecutive season (14th time overall). The Zias lost to Ouachita Baptist in the LSC Tournament quarterfinals.
