ENMU AND WESTERN NEW MEXICO TO PLAY
AT “THE PIT” IN DECEMBER
Hounds, Mustangs to Meet Prior to UNM Game
PORTALES, NM — Shawn Scanlan, recently named head men’s basketball coach at Eastern New Mexico University for the 2000-01 season, has announced that the Greyhounds will play Western New Mexico University in a double-header at “The Pit” in Albuquerque, N.M. later this year.

The Greyhounds and the Mustangs will play each other prior to a home game for the University of New Mexico men’s basketball team sometime during the month of December. An exact date and game time for the ENMU-WNMU game has not been determined.

Scanlan, a junior college head coach for 14 seasons, including the past five years at South Plains College in Levelland, Texas, sees the double-header as an excellent addition to the ENMU schedule. He also considers the upcoming game to be a great opportunity to showcase Greyhound basketball in front of ENMU’s many alumni in the Albuquerque area.

“We’re excited about the opportunity to play alongside a University of New Mexico home game and to play in front of the ENMU fans in Albuquerque,” Scanlan said. “We’d love to have people who went to Eastern be able to watch us play and not have to go to Portales.”

Eastern New Mexico has fielded a men’s basketball team since the university opened in 1934. The Greyhounds have competed at the four-year college level since 1940-41. ENMU, which won the NAIA National Championship in 1968-69, has been a member of the Lone Star Conference and NCAA Division II since the 1984-85 season.
