HOSTETLER, MASIAREK NAMED
TO GTE ACADEMIC ALL-DISTRICT FIRST TEAM
PORTALES, NM — Eastern New Mexico University baseball players Andy Hostetler (So., CF, Albuquerque, NM/Valley H.S.) and Matt Masiarek (Sr., DH, Brisbane, Australia/ Lamar C.C.) have been named First Team GTE Academic All-District VI as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA). Overall, a total of 12 players were named to the All-District VI First Team.

Hostetler has achieved a 3.647 cumulative grade point average at ENMU while majoring in Business Administration. Masiarek owns a 3.571 GPA and is majoring in Biology at ENMU. Hostetler led the Greyhounds with a .391 batting average.

He also topped the squad with 68 hits, 174 at bats, 14 doubles and 14 stolen bases. Hostetler hit 5 triples and 2 home runs, while scoring 39 times and earning 35 RBIs. He achieved a .563 slugging percentage and was 14 of 19 (.737) on stolen base attempts. In two seasons at ENMU, he has a .349 career batting and 20 career stolen bases (20 of 26, .769). He started all 47 games this year.

Masiarek earned a .369 batting average and hit a team-high 10 home runs. He tied for fourth in the LSC with .24 homers per game. Masiarek also hit 4 doubles and a triple, while leading the team with 41 RBIs, a .646 slugging percentage and a .458 on-base percentage. His 10 homers were two short of the ENMU record, set by Steve Marquez in 1995 and 1996.

In two seasons since transferring from Lamar Community College, Masiarek earned a .332 batting average, 76 hits, 58 runs, 15 homers and 64 RBIs. ENMU concluded the season with a 25-21-1 overall record. The Greyhounds earned a 10-8 record and a third place finish in the Lone Star Conference South Division. Eastern was in the running for the LSC South title and an LSC Tournament berth until the final day of the season.

CoSIDA District VI includes colleges and universities in New Mexico, Arkansas, Louisiana, Mississippi, Oklahoma and Texas. Players nominated for the GTE Academic All-District Team were starters or key reserves with cumulative GPAs of 3.2 or higher (4.0 scale). Each player had to be at his current college or university for at least one full year.
