MOHLER CHOSEN LSC SOUTH
CO-PLAYER-OF-THE-YEAR

PORTALES, NM — Eastern New Mexico University sophomore third baseman Rachel Mohler (Las Vegas, NV/Green Valley H.S.) has been named Lone Star Conference South Division Co-Player-of-the-Year as selected by the LSC head softball coaches.

Mohler and ENMU junior outfielder Kim Paschall (Midland, TX/Midland H.S.) were among 12 players named to the All-LSC South First Team. Mohler and Abilene Christian junior shortstop Veronica Villa tied in the voting for Player-of-the-Year.

The Zias also placed five players on the All-LSC South Honorable Mention list. They were junior right-handed pitcher Jennifer Harrer (Albuquerque, NM/Hope Christian H.S.), junior catcher Rachel Valenzuela (Mesa, AZ/South Mountain C.C.), senior second baseman Enida Rosales (Glendale, AZ/South Mountain C.C.), junior shortstop Sarah Rempp (Greeley, CO/ Central H.S.) and freshman first baseman Dawn Hunt (Carlsbad, NM/Carlsbad H.S.).

Mohler led the LSC with 11 home runs and 41 RBIs. She ranked sixth in the Conference with a .396 batting average and was second in hits per game (1.30), with 65 in 50 games. She concluded the season with a team-high .738 slugging percentage and finished second on the squad with 39 runs scored. She blasted a total of 32 extra-base hits, including a school record 19 doubles.

Her 11 homers also set an ENMU record, breaking the previous mark, which she set with 9 homers as a freshman in 1999. Mohler already owns ENMU career records with 30 doubles and 20 home runs the past two seasons. Her career totals also include a .396 batting average, a .730 slugging percentage, 69 runs scored and 71 RBIs.

Paschall hit .348 as ENMU’s third leading hitter, and tied for 9th in the LSC with 0.60 runs per game (28 runs, 47 games). She earned 19 RBIs, provided 4 doubles and added 2 triples. She was successful on 5 of 6 stolen base attempts. In three seasons with the Zias, Paschall has earned 162 hits, scored 103 run and recorded 40 RBIs. She has a .353 career batting average.

Harrer compiled a 9-9 record and 1 save on the mound. She finished the season with a 3.23 ERA, while limiting opponents to a .269 batting average. She led the Lone Star Conference in strikeouts per 7 innings, with 114 strikeouts in 119 1/3 innings pitched.

Her strikeout total also set an ENMU single season record. She pitched two no-hitters this season, a 9-0 win over Northwood University on Apr. 8 and an 9-0 victory over Texas-Permian Basin on Apr. 11. Harrer has struck out 217 batters in her career, while recording 21 wins and 2 saves.

Valenzuela hit .263 and achieved a .973 fielding percentage in her first season with the Zias. She produced 31 hits in 118 at bats, while scoring 16 runs and recording 10 RBIs. She had provided several key hits in LSC games, and ended the season with 2 doubles and 1 triple. She finished second on the ENMU team with 210 putouts and was a perfect 6 for 6 on stolen base attempts.

Rosales topped the LSC in runs scored with 0.86 runs per game (43 runs, 50 games). She also tied for 8th in the Conference with 0.24 doubles per game, as she pounded out 12 doubles on the season. Rosales also hit 1 homer and 1 triple, while batting .319 and driving in 20 runs for the Zias.

She led the squad with 18 walks and was 7 of 8 on stolen bases. During two seasons at ENMU, Rosales played in all 91 games, including 90 starts. She also scored 66 runs, hit 17 doubles and totaled 39 RBIs.

Rempp ranked in the Top 10 in the LSC in several categories. She tied for the lead in triples per game at 0.14 (7 in 50 games). She was third in home runs per game (0.14, 7 homers) and finished third in RBIs per game (0.74, 37 RBIs).

Rempp also ranked 8th in runs scored per game (0.62), with 31 runs on the season. She achieved 21 extra-base hits, including 7 doubles to go with 7 triples and 7 home runs. She finished second on the team with a .361 batting average and a .627 slugging percentage. In three years with the Zias, she has scored 70 runs, provided 86 RBIs, hit 12 homers and achieved a .313 career batting average.

Hunt played in all 50 games, including 49 starts. She hit .262, with 6 doubles, 2 triples and 1 home run. She drove in 20 runs and crossed the plate 17 times. On defense, she led the Zias with 260 putouts and a .986 fielding percentage. Hunt also earned a 4-0 record as a pitcher, while recording a 2.33 ERA and limiting opponents to a .239 batting average. She struck out 27 batters in 45 innings pitched.

The Zias achieved a 25-25 overall record under second-year Head Coach Kathleen Rodriguez for the first .500 mark in the program’s short four-year history. ENMU was 6-10 in the LSC South, but won 3 of 4 games against powerful Texas Woman’s University and remained in the race for the LSC Tournament until the final weekend of the season.
