CALL, PASCHALL NAMED TO LSC SOUTH ALL-ACADEMIC SOFTBALL TEAM
PORTALES, NM — Eastern New Mexico University senior right fielder Katie Call and junior center fielder Kim Paschall have been selected to the 2000 Lone Star Conference South Division All-Academic Softball Team, as chosen by the LSC South sports information directors.

Call and Paschall were joined by five Zias, sophomore outfielder Michelle Delillo, junior utility player Erica Sussex, junior pitcher Jennifer Harrer, junior shortstop Sarah Rempp and senior second baseman Enida Rosales, on the LSC South Commissioner’s Honor Roll.

Student-athletes with at least a 3.2 grade point average and 24 or more semester hours at an LSC member institution were eligible for the LSC South All-Academic Team. A total of 9 players from the five South Division teams were selected. The All-Academic Team and all other nominees were named to the LSC South Commissioner’s Honor Roll.

Call, a Religion and Psychology major at ENMU, has a 3.857 cumulative grade point average. She was also named to the LSC South All-Academic Team in 1998 and 1999. She is the only player to see action in each of ENMU’s first four seasons of intercollegiate softball.

In four years at ENMU, Call played in 118 games for the Zias. She scored 15 career runs, while providing 19 career RBIs. She pounded four extra-base hits (3 doubles, 1 triple), and totaled 8 sacrifice bunts.

Paschall owns a 3.649 cumulative GPA while majoring in Marketing at ENMU. She was a First Team All-LSC South selection this season. She hit .348 for the Zias, and scored 28 runs in 47 games. She tied for 9th in the LSC with 0.60 runs per game. She earned 19 RBIs, provided 4 doubles and added 2 triples. She was successful on 5 of 6 stolen base attempts.

In three seasons with the Zias, Paschall has earned 162 hits, scored 103 runs and provided 40 RBIs. She has a .353 career batting average.

Delillo has a 3.583 cumulative GPA and is majoring in Psychology and Criminal Justice. She played in 26 games this year, and scored 6 runs and earned 2 RBIs. Sussex is majoring in Biology. She has achieved a 3.368 cumulative GPA. She recorded 16 hits in 41 games. She hit 3 doubles, scored 2 runs and supplied 2 RBIs. She was 2 for 2 on stolen bases, and earned a .976 fielding percentage.

Harrer was one of ENMU’s top pitchers. She concluded the season with a 9-9 overall record, 1 save and a 3.23 earned run average. She started 22 games and threw 119 1/3 innings.

Harrer recorded two no-hitters and set an ENMU record with 114 strikeouts during the season. She leaded the LSC in strikeouts per 7 innings. She has struck out 217 batters in her career, while winning 21 games and providing 2 saves. She has a 3.590 cumulative GPA and is majoring in Physical Education and Secondary Education.

Rempp has earned a 3.519 cumulative GPA. She is majoring in Mathematics. She tied for first place in the LSC in triples per game at 0.14 (7 in 50 games). She was third in the LSC in homers per game (0.14, 7 homers) and finished third in RBIs per game (0.74, 37 RBIs).

She ranked eighth in runs scored per game (0.62), with 31 runs on the season. She finished second on the team with a .361 batting average and a .627 slugging percentage. In three years, Rempp has scored 70 runs and earned 86 RBIs to go with 12 homers and a .313 batting average.

Rosales is majoring in Health and Physical Education, and has a 3.300 cumulative GPA. She led the LSC in runs scored with 43 runs in 50 games (0.86 per game). She also tied for eighth in the Conference with 12 doubles (0.24 per game). She earned a .319 batting average and drove in 20 runs for the Zias. She led ENMU with 18 walks, and was 7 of 8 on stolen bases.

During two seasons at ENMU, she played in all 91 games, including 90 starts. She scored 66 career runs, while hitting 17 doubles and 39 RBIs.

Harrer, Rempp and Rosales were also recognized by the LSC for their on-the-field efforts. All three players were All-LSC South Honorable Mention selections this spring. ENMU concluded the season with a 25-25 overall record, the first .500 record in the four-year history of Zia Softball.

The Zias were 6-10 in the LSC South. ENMU was involved in the battle for an LSC Tournament berth until the final weekend of the season.
