NAMED 1ST TEAM ALL-LSC SOUTH Overall, ENMU placed four players on the All-Conference squad. Tanya Heyko (Sr., OH, Salem, OR/Chemeketa C.C.) was named Second Team All-LSC South. Jessica Rowley (Jr., OH, Dallas, OR/Clackamas C.C.) and freshman setter Margie Goble (San Antonio, TX/ Holmes H.S.) were both chosen Honorable Mention All-LSC South. Mariner set an ENMU record with 567 kills, breaking the previous single season record of 505, set by Jennifer Goble Poyer in 1992. Mariner averaged 4.2 kills per game, and led the Zias with a .286 hitting percentage. She also earned 377 digs (2.8 avg.), 172 total blocks (1.3 avg.), 38 service aces (0.3 avg.) and 29 assists (0.2 avg.). Mariner was chosen LSC South Hitter-of-the-Week for the week ending October 22. She was also selected to the LSC All-Tournament Team after leading the Zias to the semifinals of the postseason event. Heyko led the Zias with 566 digs, the third most recorded by an ENMU player in a single season. She averaged 4.4 digs per game Heyko provided 473 kills (3.6 avg.) to rank fourth all-time at ENMU in single season kills. She led the Zias with 42 service aces (0.3 avg.), contributed 52 total blocks (0.4 avg.) and supplied 40 assists (0.3 avg.). Heyko finished the season with a .235 hitting percentage. Rowley, a junior college transfer, recorded 424 kills, an average of 3.2 kills per game. She also earned 419 digs (3.2 avg.) and achieved 77 total blocks (0.6 avg.). She hit .195 during the season. Goble set an ENMU single season record with 1,536 assists. She broke the previous record of 1,498 assists, set in 1999 by Lindsey Davison. Goble added 379 digs (2.9 avg.) and 129 kills (1.0 avg.). She averaged 11.6 assists per game, while providing 40 service aces (0.3 avg.) and amassing 74 total blocks (0.6 avg.). ENMU concluded the 2000 season with a 26-11 overall record. It was the Zias’ 12th straight winning season. Eastern earned a 6-4 record in Lone Star Conference play to finish third in the LSC South. Head Coach Mike Maguire improved his record at ENMU to 295-173 (.630) during 14 seasons. Maguire, who coached one season at Chadron State (Nebr.) before arriving at ENMU, earned his 300th career victory on Sept. 28 at Tarleton State. He finished the year with a 310-188 (.622) career record over 15 seasons. |
