CHRISTABELL MARINER NAMED TO LSC ALL-TOURNAMENT TEAM
PORTALES, NM — Eastern New Mexico University sophomore middle blocker Christabell Mariner (So., Pago Pago, Amer. Samoa/Tafuna H.S.) has been named to the Lone Star Conference All-Tournament Team. Mariner led the Zias to the semifinals of the LSC Tournament before ENMU lost to eventual LSC champion West Texas A&M.

Mariner provided the Zias with 33 kills, 25 digs and 10 blocks in ENMU’s two matches at the LSC Tournament, which was held in Lawton, Okla. Mariner earned a .244 hitting percentage during the matches, while contributing 6 service aces. She connected for 19 kills against Central Oklahoma, then achieved 14 kills against West Texas.

Mariner finished the season with a school record 567 kills (4.2 avg.). She broke the previous ENMU single season record of 505 kills, set by Jennifer Goble Poyer in 1992. Mariner accumulated 377 digs during the season to go with 172 total blocks and 38 service aces. She ranked fourth in the LSC South with a .286 hitting percentage.

ENMU opened the LSC Tournament with a 15-9, 15-12, 7-15, 15-9 victory over Central Oklahoma. West Texas A&M defeated the Zias, 15-3, 15-6, 16-14, in the semifinals, before downing Cameron University, 15-8, 11-15, 15-7, 15-8, in the LSC championship match.

The Zias ended the year with a 26-11 overall record, including a 6-4 mark in conference play. ENMU, which produced a winning overall record for the 12th consecutive year, took third place in the LSC South.
