ENMU RANKED 8TH IN NCAA DIVISION II Layla Turner Ranked 4th in Singles, 13th in Doubles
PORTALES, NM — The Eastern New Mexico University women’s tennis team is ranked 8th in the NCAA Division II National Rankings for Fall 2000, as released by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association. The Zias, who finished 16-5 and reached the national quarterfinals last season, were ranked 11th in the Final NCAA Division II Poll of 1999-2000.

ENMU’s top player, Layla Turner (Casa Grande, AZ/Casa Grande Union H.S.) is ranked #4 in the NCAA Division II Singles Rankings for Fall 2000. She is also ranked #1 in the Midwest Region. This fall, Turner won the ITA/Rolex Midwest Regional singles title and finished 4th at the ITA/Rolex National Tournament.

Turner and doubles partner Bethanie Nix (Fr., Birmingham, AL/Newman Smith H.S.) are ranked 13th in the NCAA Division II Doubles Rankings for Fall 2000. Turner and Nix lost in the ITA/Rolex Midwest Regional championship match.

The #8 team ranking is the highest ever for the Zias. ENMU has qualified for four consecutive NCAA Tournament berths. The Zias won the Midwest Regional title in Edmond, Okla. last spring. Eastern has a combined record of 36-14 (.720) the past two seasons.
