LOBOS DEFEAT GREYHOUNDS AT THE PIT
ALBUQUERQUE, NM — The University of New Mexico shot 54.5% from the field (36 of 66) as the Lobos defeated Eastern New Mexico University, Nov. 29 at The Pit in Albuquerque, N.M. The Lobos led 51-27 at the half, on their way to improving to 3-1 on the season, including 3-0 at The Pit.

The game was a regular season contest for the NCAA Division I Lobos. Under an NCAA rule which permits exhibitions between Division I and Division II teams, the game counted as an exhibition for the NCAA Division II Greyhounds. Beginning in the 2001-02 season, all Division I versus Division II games will be counted in the same category for both teams.

ENMU scored the game’s first points on a pull-up jumper by Rudy Charles (Fr., G, Las Vegas, NV/Durango H.S.) with 19:02 left in the first half. The game was tied, 4-4, just over a minute later, but UNM pulled away with a 16-0 run.

New Mexico led 20-4 with 14:03 remaining in the first period. The Lobos went on to take a 51-27 halftime advantage. Wayland White led UNM’s first half scoring with 14 points. Marlon Parmer and Tim Lightfoot each scored 11 points during the first 20 minutes.

The Lobos continued to maintain a comfortable lead throughout the second half. Eric Chatfield, who scored 15 points in the second half, finished the game as UNM’s top scorer with 20 points. Chatfield also recorded 7 assists and 6 rebounds.

White and Lightfoot each added 18 points for the Lobos. White earned 6 rebounds, 3 assists and 3 steals. Lightfoot also contributed 5 rebounds and 2 steals. Parmer also finished in double figures with 13 points. UNM achieved a 39-23 rebounding edge.

For the Greyhounds, Brenton Robinson (Jr., F/C, Tucson, AZ/Central Arizona) led the way with 15 points on 7 of 10 shooting. Charles provided 9 points, 6 rebounds and 5 assists. Brandon Ridenour (Sr., G, Lovington, NM/New Mexico J.C.) scored 8 points, and Garland Coleman (Fr., G/F, Chicago, IL/Homewood-Flossmoor H.S.) chipped in 6 points. The Hounds shot 47.8% for the game, including 52.4% (11 of 21) in the first half.

ENMU hits the road again to compete in the St. Edwards University Classic this weekend. Eastern will take on St. Edwards on Friday, Dec. 1 at 7:00 p.m., before playing the University of the Incarnate Word on Saturday, Dec. 2 at 5:00 p.m. The Hounds return to Portales, N.M. for their second home game of the season, Dec. 7 against Western New Mexico University at 7:00 p.m. (MST).
