ZIAS SPLIT PAIR OF MATCHES AT LSC CROSSOVER TOURNAMENT
ABILENE, TX — Eastern New Mexico University lost to Cameron University, 3-0, but defeated Texas Woman’s University, 3-0, on Friday, Oct. 6 at the LSC Crossover Volleyball Tournament hosted by Abilene Christian University. Cameron defeated the Zias, 15-10, 15-11, 15-7. ENMU rebounded with a 15-4, 15-2, 15-9 rout of TWU.

ENMU’s overall record is now 18-6. Cameron improved to 14-7, while Texas Woman’s dropped to 3-19. LSC Crossover Tournament games do not count in the LSC standings.

Cameron swept its match with ENMU by earning 41 kills and a .212 hitting percentage, while limiting the Zias to 31 kills and a .061 hitting percentage. The Lady Aggies hit .244 in the first game and .239 in the second game to take command of the match.

Lora Spencer led CU with 14 kills (.400 hitting percentage) and 9 digs. Christie Grayson and Kim Pletcher each added 7 kills. Mindy Brown recorded 11 digs, while setter Megan Smith earned 26 assists and 10 digs.

ENMU’s leading attacker was Christabell Mariner (So., MB, Pago Pago, American Samoa/ Tafuna H.S.), who pounded out 10 kills. Jessica Rowley (Jr., OH, Dallas, OR/Clackamas C.C.) provided 9 kills, and Jenny Gledhill (Jr., RS/MB, West Jordan, UT/Sheridan J.C.) achieved 6 kills. Amber Barber (Fr., MB, San Antonio, TX/Winston Churchill H.S.) supplied 11 digs, while Margie Goble (Fr., S, San Antonio, TX/Holmes H.S.) registered 26 assists and 10 digs.

The Zias quickly defeated TWU in the second match. ENMU hit a blistering .520 in the first game, followed by a solid .458 during the second game. Senior outside hitter Tanya Heyko led all players with a .688 hitting percentage for the match. Heyko recorded 12 kills and just 1 attacking error, while also providing a match-high 14 digs.

Mariner achieved a match-high 13 kills. Rowley supplied 10 kills and 8 digs, and Goble earned 36 assists. Six different Zias helped ENMU achieve 3 block solos and 12 block assists.

Adalene Wright led the Pioneers with 5 kills, while Erika Cardillo supplied 4 kills and 6 digs. Johanna Hubbard dished out 14 assists to go with 7 digs.

ENMU completes its LSC Crossover Tournament schedule on Saturday, Oct. 7 with one match. The Zias will take on Texas A&M-Commerce, starting at 10:00 a.m. (MDT).
