ENMU DEFEATS ANGELO STATE
Zias defeat the Rambelles 12-15, 15-7, 15-8, 13-15, 15-12
PORTALES, NM — Eastern New Mexico University came back from a first game loss against Angelo State University, Sept. 9 at Greyhound Arena, and went on to defeat the Rambelles,3-2, in the second Lone Star Conference game for both teams. ENMU won 12-15, 15-7, 15-8, 13-15, 15-12 to improve to 8-3 on the season, and 1-1 in conference play. ASU dropped to 7-4 overall, 0-2 in the conference.

Angelo State started out strong, taking a 15-12 win. The Rambelles recorded 22 kills and a .340 team hitting percentage during the game. ENMU earned 23 kills, with a .321 hitting percentage.

Eastern New Mexico controlled the next two games. ENMU was led by Christabell Mariner with nine kills in the second game, and came away with a win, 15-7 . In the third game, Eastern’s Jessica Rowley contributed 6 kills and 7 digs, as ENMU triumphed, 15-8.

The fourth game was a hard-fought battle. ASU held a three point advantage, 14-11, but ENMU came back with two points to pull within one. ASU stopped the Zia’s momentum, and scored the final two points of the game to win, 15-13, tieing the match at two games apeice.

Eastern New Mexico jumped out to a 8-3 lead in the rally-scored fifth game. Angelo State struggled back to pull within two, 14-12, before the Zias scored once more to win the match.

Christabell Mariner (So., MB, Pago Pago, Amer. Samoa/Tafuna H.S.) led the Zias in kills with 30, and added 7 digs. Tanya Heyko (Sr., OH, Salem, OR/Chemetka C.C.) had an exceptional defensive game with 49 digs, and added 20 kills, while Jessica Rowley (Jr., OH, Dallas, OR/Clackamas C.C.)contributed 15 kills and 26 digs. Freshman setter Margie Goble (San Antonio, TX/Holmes H.S.) recorded 74 assists and 22 digs. Jenny Gledhill (Jr., RS, West Jordan, UT/Sheridan J.C.) achieved 13 kills and 18 digs.

ASU was led by Lakeena Jones with 31 kills and 26 digs. Hillery Lee added 15 kills and 25 digs, and Jill Durham contributed 11 kills and 10 digs. Jennifer Tucker was credited with 45 assists.

Eastern New Mexico’s next match will be at Wayland Baptist University, Tuesday, Sept. 12. The non-conference match is scheduled at 6:00 p.m.(MST).

ACU was led by Misti Germany with 15 kills. Jennifer Purvis and Lindsay DeHoff each connected for 14 kills and 17 digs. Randi Kinzer was credited with 59 assists, while Nora Oglesby supplied 11 kills and 16 digs.

Eastern New Mexico remains at home on Saturday, Sept. 9, to take on the Rambelles of Angelo State University. The Lone Star Conference match is scheduled to get underway at Greyhound Arena at 2:00 p.m. (MST).
