TANYA HEYKO NAMED LSC SOUTH HITTER-OF-THE-WEEK
PORTALES, NM —- Eastern New Mexico University senior outside hitter Tanya Heyko (5’10”, Salem, OR/Chemeketa C.C.) has been named Lone Star Conference South Division Hitter-of-the-Week for the week of Aug. 28-Sept. 3.

Heyko helped the Zias go 5-0 during the week, including a 4-0 record in winning the ENMU Torneo de Amigas. The Zias are now 7-2 on the season. Heyko recorded 75 kills during the week, as she averaged 4.7 kills per game. She also provided the Zias with 92 digs, an average of 5.8 digs per game. Heyko registered 10 service aces to lead the Zias, and also recorded 8 assists and 9 total blocks.

She achieved a .278 hitting percentage during the week. Heyko earned career highs with 20 kills and 31 digs against Western New Mexico. Her previous highs of 19 kills and 28 digs came against WNMU on Sept. 13, 1999. Heyko recorded 336 kills and 451 digs last season.

ENMU defeated Lubbock Christian University, ranked #10 in the NAIA, on Tuesday, Aug. 29. Game scores were 15-12, 15-10, 15-5. The Zias then defeated all four opponents in the Torneo de Amigas. ENMU defeated Fort Lewis, 15-6, 15-8, 15-9, and Colorado School of Mines, 18-16, 15-5, 15-12, on Friday, Sept. 1. The Zias downed Western New Mexico, 11-15, 18-16, 15-7, 15-7, and Fort Hays State, 15-10, 15-10, 15-8, on Saturday, Sept. 2.

The Zias will return to action on Friday, Sept. 8, when they host Abilene Christian in the Lone Star Conference opener for both teams. Match time at Greyhound Arena is set for 7:00 p.m. (MST). ENMU also hosts Angelo State in an LSC match on Saturday, Sept. 9 at 2:00 p.m. (MST).
