EASTERN NEW MEXICO VOLLEYBALL TEAM
SIGNS THREE PLAYERS TO LETTERS OF INTENT
PORTALES, NM — Mike Maguire, head volleyball coach at Eastern New Mexico University, has announced the signing of three junior college transfers to National Letters of Intent. The student-athletes are setter Lisa Flohr (Benton City, WA/Mt. Hood C.C.), middle blocker Raina Pilon (Eagan, MN/Pasco-Hernando C.C.), and right-side hitter Courtney Wallenborn (Vancouver, WA/Mt. Hood C.C.).

EASTERN NEW MEXICO VOLLEYBALL SIGNINGS
Lisa Flohr [FLOOR]
Setter, 5’8”, Benton City, Washington (Mt. Hood C.C.) Previously attended Kiona-Benton High School in Benton City, Washington. Will be a junior during the 2001 season.

Last fall, MHCC won the Northwest Athletic Association of Community Colleges (NWAACC) championship with an undefeated record, while finishing 44-1 overall. “Lisa served as the back-up setter during the 2000 season (at MHCC) behind Amy Bell, who was a First Team All-American,” Maguire said. “Lisa also played as a defensive specialist and a primary passer last season. She has a great serve.”

In high school, Flohr earned All-Region honors. She also was a First Team All-League selection twice at Kiona Benton High School.

Raina Pilon [RAY-nuh PIH-lawn]
Middle Blocker, 5’10”, Eagan, Minnesota (Pasco-Hernando C.C.) Previously attended Eagan High School in Eagan, Minnesota. Will be a junior during the 2001 season.

Pilon was named NJCAA Honorable Mention All-American at Pasco-Hernando Community College in New Port Ritchey, Fla., this past season. She was a key player as Pasco-Hernando reached the NJCAA National Tournament. “She’s probably one of the better all-around skilled players we’ve signed here in the last 10 years,” Maguire said. “We feel very fortunate to sign a player of her ability. She’s strong ... she’s very competitive ... she’s got a great work ethic.”

Pilon is a two-sport athlete who has played center field in softball. She has not yet decided if she will play softball at Eastern New Mexico. If she does, she will join Jessica Rowley (Sr. in 2001, OH, Dallas, OR/Clackamas C.C.) as a two-sport athlete playing both volleyball and softball for the Zias.

Courtney Wallenborn [WALL-in-born]
Right-Side Hitter, 5’11”, Vancouver, Washington (Mt. Hood C.C.) Previously attended Camas High School in Camas, Washington. Will be a junior during the 2001 season. Flohr played two seasons at Mt. Hood Community College, and received the Most Inspirational Award both years.

Wallenborn was a key player for Mt. Hood C.C. on its run to the NWAACC title. She was chosen First Team All-NWAACC and was a First Team All-Southern Region selection. She earned All-Star recognition at the Mt. Hood Classic and the Clark Crossover Tournament. “She’s an extremely smart right-side hitter,” Maguire commented. “She is one of those players who is there when it’s crunch time. She’s also an excellent blocker."

Wallenborn was an All-State selection at Camas High School in Washington in 1998. She was named All-League twice and was League MVP once. She also played volleyball, basketball and track in high school. She played basketball at Mt. Hood during the 2000-01 season, but will probably concentrate on volleyball at ENMU.
