SIGNS ABILENE COOPER VOLLEYBALL STANDOUT
PORTALES, NM — Mike Maguire, head volleyball coach at Eastern New Mexico University, has announced the signing of an incoming freshman to a National Letter of Intent. The student-athlete is middle blocker Jamie Wise from Cooper High School in Abilene, Texas. Wise is the first high school player signed by Maguire this season. She joins three junior college transfers who signed with the Zias on Wednesday (Apr. 11).

Wise played four seasons at Cooper High School. This past season, she was the Outstanding Hitter in District play and was named to the West Texas All-Star Team. She was a First Team All-District selection in 1999 and 2000.

In 1999, she helped Cooper win a District championship and advance to the Regional quarterfinals. Wise played middle blocker throughout her high school career. She helped Cooper achieve a 60-41 combined record during her final three seasons.

“Jamie has a lot of athletic ability ...She’s a real competitor,” Maguire said. “She certainly caught our eye, and we are expecting big things from her. “I just think she’s a good all-around player. I think she’ll really develop over the next couple of years,” Maguire added.
