HARRER NAMED LSC SOUTH It was the third time this season Harrer has been chosen LSC South Pitcher-of-the-Week this year. She also received the award on March 5 and April 2. Harrer has earned Pitcher-of-the-Week honors five times during her ENMU career, including twice last season. Harrer threw a 1-hitter in ENMU’s first game at TWU. She took a no-hitter into the 7th, but Kim Deaton hit a single to center field for the Pioneers’ only hit. ENMU won the game, 4-0. In the second game, Harrer pitched in relief, earning the victory in a 2-1, 10-inning triumph. She threw the final 4 1/3 innings, and struck out 6 batters, while allowing 2 walks. She gave up just one hit and one unearned run. After ENMU scored in the top of the 10th to take the lead, Harrer faced just three batters in the bottom of the inning to secure the win. Harrer also pitched in the third game of the series. She tossed a 4-hitter, with all four hits coming in the first inning. TWU scored twice, but Harrer and the Zias recovered for a 7-2 victory. Harrer struck out 4 batters and walked 2 batters, while throwing all 7 innings. ENMU won the fourth game, 5-2, behind sophomore pitcher Dawn Murray (Carlsbad, NM/Carlsbad H.S.). For the week, Harrer achieved a 3-0 record and a 0.76 earned run average. She totaled 12 strikeouts and gave up just 3 runs (2 earned) in 18 1/3 innings pitched. Harrer has already broken her own school records for victories and strikeouts in a season. She is 16-5 this spring, and has struck out 154 batters in 132 2/3 innings pitched. The old records were 11 wins (1998) and 114 strikeouts (2000). ENMU is currently 28-10-1 overall. The Zias, who lead the LSC South at 8-2, have already clinched an LSC Tournament berth, and will close out the regular season, April 20-21, by hosting Abilene Christian University in a 4-game series. The double-headers at Zia Softball Field will start at 1:00 p.m. (MDT) on Friday and 12:00 noon (MDT) on Saturday. |
