ZIA SOFTBALL MAKING A PLAY FOR #1
PORTALES, NM — The Zia softball team is on a roll, breaking school records left and right on its way to a Lone Star Conference Championship. The Zias are two wins away from clinching at least a tie for the Lone Star Conference South Division Championship.

Zia softball is playing a double header against Abilene Christian on Friday at 1:00 p.m. (MDT) at Zia Field. If the Zias sweep both games, and conference rival Tarleton State drops one of their games against Kingsville, the Zias will be outright LSC South Division champs. Kingsville dropped three of four games played here earlier in the season, including a 10-inning nail-biter in which the Zias triumphed. The Zias still have Saturday's double header against ACU at noon to clinch first if Tarleton does not lose.

"One thing that ENMU is known for is our fans. We have great fans who do an excellent job of cheering on our team and making the visiting team aware that they are on the Zias' home field." Events Manager Jennifer Poyer said. "It really helps our athletes get pumped up when there are fans in the stands getting excited about home runs or double plays. It just adds to the excitement of competition and make it that much better … and now is definitely a time to get excited about Zia Softball!"

During this weekend's games, the ENMU Athletics Department will be giving away prizes including certificates from Domino's Pizza, McDonald's, Cattle Baron, Tropical Tans, Fitness and More and Pizza Hut. Fans will also have the chance to score an Allsup's T-shirt or Goodie Bag if they can correctly answer questions about the Zia players. There will be a homerun contest between games both days, in which fans will have the chance to get on the field and try to hit a homer to win some of the great prizes.
