LSC SOUTH PITCHER-OF-THE-WEEK
Jennifer HarrerPORTALES, NM — Eastern New Mexico University senior pitcher Jennifer Harrer (Albuquerque, NM/Hope Christian H.S.) has been named Lone Star Conference South Division Pitcher-of-the-Week for the week ending April 1.

Harrer pitched in all four games March 30-31 against Texas A&M-Kingsville, helping ENMU win three games in the LSC series. It was the second time this season that Harrer was chosen LSC South Pitcher-of-the-Week. She also received the award on March 5.

Harrer’s efforts against TAMU-Kingsville included a school record 19 strikeouts in the third game of the series, leading ENMU to a 2-1 triumph in 10 innings. She also broke her own school record for strikeouts in a season, finishing the weekend with 118 strikeouts. She set the previous record (114) last season.

Harrer pitched 22 1/3 out of 31 innings in the series. She started the first game on Friday, March 30, but left the game after 4 innings with ENMU trailing 3-0 (2 unearned runs) after she was hit in the shin by a batted ball. ENMU lost the game, 11-2. Harrer returned for the second game of the double-header and pitched a complete-game 3-hitter, as ENMU won 4-0.

On Saturday, March 31, Harrer and TAMUK starter Maria Gutierrez threw a pitching gem in the first game. Harrer threw 168 pitches in the 10-inning game, while establishing the ENMU strikeout record. She pitched the final 1 1/3 innings in the second game, combining with Dawn Murray (So., 1B/P, Carlsbad, NM/Carlsbad H.S.) for a 5-0 shutout.

For the week, Harrer struck out 36 batters and allowed just 6 walks. She gave up only 4 runs (2 earned), and posted a 0.63 ERA against the Lady Javelinas. She was 2-1 during the series, with decisions in each of the first three games. Overall, she threw 367 pitches.

Harrer, now 11-4, tied a school record with her 11th victory of the season. The record was originally set by Harrer as a freshman in 1998. ENMU is currently 20-7-1 overall and 4-2 in the LSC South. The Zias return to action on March 6-7 in the Oklahoma City University Tournament.
