ZIAS TAKE 3RD PLACE AT OCU TOURNAMENT
OKLAHOMA CITY, OK — The Eastern New Mexico University softball team defeated Oklahoma Christian University, 2-0, in the third place game at the Oklahoma City University Tournament, on Saturday, April 7, in Oklahoma City, Okla. The Zias began the day by completing pool play with an 11-0, run-rule victory over Kansas Wesleyan University and an 8-7 loss to Northwood University (Texas). ENMU concluded the tournament with a 3-2 record in the event and a 23-9-1 overall record.

Oklahoma City University won the championship game 3-1 over Newman University. Oklahoma City, the defending NAIA national champion, is ranked #1 in the NAIA. It was Eastern’s second consecutive third place finish at the OCU Tournament. The Zias also defeated Oklahoma Christian 2-0 in the third place game last year. Oklahoma Christian is ranked #6 in the NAIA this year. ENMU is ranked 4th in the South Central Region of NCAA Division II.

Sarah Rempp (Sr., C, Marshalltown, IA/Greeley Central H.S., CO) led the Zias by hitting three home runs on Saturday. She hit 2 homers in Eastern’s rout of Kansas Wesleyan, then drove in both runs in the third place game with a 2-run homer. Rempp has hit 5 homers this season, and is ranked second all-time at ENMU with 17 career home runs. Dalia Flores (Jr., C/UT, Allen, TX/Vernon Regional J.C.) added one home run -- her first at ENMU -- in the win over Kansas Wesleyan.

Jennifer Harrer (Sr., RHP, Albuquerque, NM/Hope Christian H.S.) threw a complete-game shutout in the third place game. She has earned 6 solo and 3 combined shutouts this season. Harrer also suffered the loss against Northwood when the Knights opened the bottom of the seventh inning with a solo homer. Harrer entered the game midway through the first inning, as Northwood was on its way to a 7-run inning.

The win over Oklahoma Christian moved Harrer to 12-6 on the season, as she set a new ENMU record for victories in one season. The old record, set by Harrer in 1998, was 11 wins.

Lauren King (Fr., RHP, La Mirada, CA/La Serna H.S.) pitched the first three innings against Kansas Wesleyan to record the win. King is now 5-2 on the season. Suzy Seitzinger (Sr., RHP, Bloomfield, NM/Bloomfield H.S.) threw the final two innings versus the Coyotes.

ENMU remains on the road on Sunday, April 8, when they take on the University of Science and Arts of Oklahoma. The double-header is scheduled to get underway in Chickasha, Okla., at 11:00 a.m. (MDT).
