LUBBOCK CHRISTIAN DEFEATS ENMU, 3-0
LUBBOCK, TX — Lubbock Christian University received 11 kills and 12 digs from Beth Ratliff, as the Chaparrals defeated visiting Eastern New Mexico University, 3-0, at the Rip Griffin Center. LCU won the match 30-19, 30-23, 30-23, in college volleyball’s new rally scoring format. LCU, ranked #18 in the NAIA, improved to 4-0 with the win, while the Zias dropped to 0-5.

ENMU’s top returning player, Christabell Mariner (Jr., OH, Pago Pago, Amer. Samoa/ Tafuna H.S.) saw action against the Chaparrals, after playing in just one of four matches in the West Texas A&M Lady Buff Classic this past weekend. Mariner has been recovering from an ankle injury that has limited her playing and practicing so far this year.

Although Ratliff was LCU’s leader in kills and digs, the Chaparrals also received 9 kills and 11 digs from Magan McCormick. Freshman setter Mandy Moffitt provided 30 assists during the match. Lubbock Christian built a 6-0 lead to open the match, and won the first game, 30-19. LCU won the second game, 30-23, then hit its way to a 13-4 advantage in the third game.

ENMU rallied, outscoring the Chaps, 16-6, to take a 20-19 lead. Lubbock regained the lead and completed the match with a 30-23 victory. The loss was the third for the Zias to a nationally-ranked team so far this season.Eastern lost to Augustana College, ranked #3 in NCAA Division II, and to Western State College, ranked #25 in Division II, during the Lady Buff Classic.

ENMU returns to action at the Fort Lewis College Skyhawk Invitational in Durango, Colo., Friday, Aug. 31 - Saturday, Sept. 1. The Zias will play UC-Colorado Springs on Friday at 2:00 p.m. (MST) and will take on Southern Colorado on Friday at 6:00 p.m. (MST). On Saturday, ENMU is scheduled to play Fort Lewis at 11:00 a.m. (MST) before taking on Mesa State at 3:00 p.m. (MST).
