SW OKLAHOMA DEFEATS ZIAS, 67-54
Morrison Scores 14 Points for Zias
WEATHERFORD, OK — Chezelle Griffith and Andrea Mauldin each scored 13 points, leading Southwestern Oklahoma State University to a 67-54 victory over visiting Eastern New Mexico University, in a Lone Star Conference crossover game, Dec. 1 in Weatherford, Okla. The Bulldogs improved to 5-2 on the season, while the Zias fell to 1-3. LSC crossover game do not count in the divisional standings.

SW Oklahoma led 24-14 with 5:59 remaining in the first half. SWOSU’s advantage dwindled to just 25-23 at the 1:09 mark, when Tia Doss (Fr., F, Albuquerque, NM/ Highland H.S.) hit two free throws for ENMU. Griffith scored a two-point basket with 58 seconds left, and Roxie Camden added a 3-pointer with 22 seconds to go, as the Bulldogs took a 30-27 halftime lead.

ENMU opened the second half with a 7-2 run to cut the deficit to two points at 32-30, but SWOSU countered with a 10-2 run that extended the Bulldogs’ lead to 42-32 with 12:05 remaining. The Bulldogs scored 15 of the next 19 points to increase their lead to 21 points, 57-36, with 6:34 on the clock.

Eastern never got closer than 12 points the rest of the way. Griffith was 6 of 10 from the field. She also grabbed a game-high 7 boards. Mauldin was 4 of 9 shooting, including 2 of 6 on 3-pointers. Makensy Opitz added 9 points, 5 assists and 5 rebounds for SWOSU, while Paige Adams provided 8 points, 6 rebounds and 2 assists.

SW Oklahoma connected on 44.4% of its field goals (20 of 45), and made 6 of 18 three-point baskets. The Bulldogs were 21 of 27 at the line, including 19 of 23 in the second half. ENMU shot just 33.9% for the game (21 of 62), although the Zias converted 4 of 10 three-pointers.

The Zias were 8 of 15 at the free throw line (4 of 5 in the first half). Juliana Morrison (So., G/F, Amarillo, TX/Palo Duro H.S.) led the Zias with 14 points on 6 of 10 field goals. She was 2 of 3 on three-point shots. Morrison also hauled down 4 rebounds.

Doss and Jill Stout (So., G, Sudan, TX/Sudan H.S.) contributed 11 points apiece for ENMU. Doss also earned 4 rebounds, 1 assist and 1 steal, while Stout recorded 2 steals and led all players with 6 assists. Monica Trimble (Jr., Post, Amarillo, TX/South Plains College) and Jennifer Doherty (Fr., F, Georgetown, TX/Georgetown H.S.) each provided the Zias with 4 rebounds.

Eastern remains on the road for another LSC crossover game on Monday, Dec. 3, at Cameron University in Lawton, Okla. Game time is set for 6:00 p.m. (MST).
