LIONS DEFEAT GREYHOUNDS, 76-66
COMMERCE, TX — Texas A&M University-Commerce opened the second half with a 19-6 run, allowing the Lions to break a 35-35 halftime tie on their way to a 76-66 victory over Eastern New Mexico University, in Lone Star Conference action, Feb. 10 at the A&M-C Field House. TAMU-Commerce upped its record to 15-7 overall and 5-3 in the LSC South, while ENMU fell to 4-18, 1-7 in the LSC South.

Eastern New Mexico, uplifted by 13 first-half points from Kevin Iverson (Jr., G/F, Chicago, IL/Elgin C.C.), held a four-point lead, 35-31, with 2:20 remaining in the half. Terrence Andrews scored with 1:20 left in the half, and Fabian Pittman added a basket at the 0:34 mark, as the Lions tied the game.

A&M-C’s run at the start of the second half gave the Lions a 54-41 lead with 12:42 left in the game. ENMU reduced the margin to six points, 58-52, on a basket by Brenton Robinson (Jr., C/F, Tucson, AZ/Central Arizona) with 7:40 to go, but the Hounds were unable to complete the comeback.

The Lions scored the next six points, and later held a 73-59 advantage with 2:54 left. ENMU got as close as seven points, 73-66, with 18 seconds remaining, before Joey Hadnot ended the game with a 3-pointer for TAMU-Commerce.

Tyrone Palmer was A&M-C’s top scorer, with 21 points, including 8 of 17 from the floor and 4 of 9 from three-point range. Palmer also recorded 10 rebounds for the Lions. Hadnot added 13 points, Robert Hamilton scored 12 points, and Pittman provided 10 points. The Lions shot 57.1% for the game (16 of 28), including 10 of 23 (43.5%) on three-point shots.

Rudy Charles (Fr., G, Las Vegas, NV/Durango H.S.) led the Greyhounds with 20 points, and was 3 of 6 on three-pointers. He also grabbed 6 rebounds and supplied 3 assists. Iverson scored 17 points, grabbed 8 rebounds and dished out 3 assists, while Robinson finished with 11 points and 10 boards. ENMU outrebounded TAMU-Commerce, 39-28, but committed 24 turnovers, while the Lions lost the ball just 12 times.

ENMU returns to Portales, N.M., to host Angelo State University in an LSC South game on Thursday, Feb. 15. Tipoff is scheduled for 8:00 p.m. (MST).
