TAMU-KINGSVILLE POUNDS GREYHOUNDS, 83-58
PORTALES, NM — Texas A&M University-Kingsville placed four players in double figures and defeated Eastern New Mexico University, 83-58, in a Lone Star Conference game, Feb. 3 at Greyhound Arena. It was TAMUK’s first LSC South Division win (1-5), which also improved the Javelinas to 7-13 overall. ENMU dropped to 4-16, 1-5 in the LSC South.

Eric Potter led the Javelinas with 17 points on 8 of 10 shooting. Kenneth Johnson added 14 points, while Quincy Sims scored 12 points. Billy Brewster contributed 11 points and hauled down a game-high 9 rebounds. The Javelinas were in front, 41-27, at halftime, and led by as many as 29 in the final minutes.

ENMU fell behind 7-4 at the start of the game, but led 11-10 with 14:14 remaining in the half. The Greyhounds gave up the next 7 points, including a three-pointer by Sims, as Kingsville took the lead for good.

Garland Coleman (Fr., G/F, Chicago, IL/Homewood-Flossmoor H.S.), who scored 28 points against TAMU-Commerce on Thursday (Feb. 1), tallied a team-high 13 points for the Greyhounds against the Javelinas. He also provided 8 rebounds, 5 assists and 2 steals.

Rudy Charles (Fr., G, Las Vegas, NV/Durango H.S.) scored 11 points for ENMU, and was 5 of 10 from the field. Brandon Ridenour (Sr., G, Lovington, NM/New Mexico J.C.), Carlton Lewis (Fr., G, Muleshoe, TX/Muleshoe H.S.) and Kevin Iverson (Jr., G/F, Chicago, IL/Elgin C.C.) each hit for 7 points. Brenton Robinson (Jr., F/C, Tucson, AZ/Central Arizona) grabbed 8 boards and scored 5 points.

ENMU, TAMU-Kingsville and Abilene Christian are tied for 5th place in the LSC South. ENMU will get a chance to improve on its performance when the Hounds and TAMUK meet again on Thursday, Feb. 8, in Kingsville, Texas. Tipoff is set for 6:30 p.m. (MST).
