ZIAS, GREYHOUNDS END ABILENE ROAD JINX
1st Wins at ACU Since 1992-93
ABILENE, TX — The Eastern New Mexico University men’s and women’s basketball teams broke an 8-year jinx on Thursday, Jan. 18, as both teams won road games at Abilene Christian for the first time since the 1992-93 season. The Zias defeated the Wildcats, 71-59, to open the evening, while the Greyhounds completed the double-header sweep with a 67-66 victory in the nightcap.

Prior to Thursday, the last win at Abilene Christian for an ENMU basketball team was on Feb. 6, 1993. Both teams won that night, as the Zias defeated ACU, 88-64, and the Hounds outscored the Wildcats, 101-91. Prior to ENMU’s wins on this season’s opening night of Lone Star Conference South Division play, both teams had lost 7 consecutive games at ACU.

Eastern New Mexico’s victories in 1992-93 were earned during very successful seasons for both squads. The Zias won the LSC regular season title that year, finishing with an impressive 23-5 overall record and setting the ENMU mark for victories in a season.

The Greyhounds were 23-7 and won the LSC Postseason Tournament. The Hounds also qualified for the NCAA Division II Tournament and reached the Regional Final before losing to Washburn University (Kan.), 79-78.
