SEASON OPENER AT UNM CANCELED
Greyhounds and Lobos Hope to Reschedule
PORTALES, NM — The Eastern New Mexico University baseball season opener, scheduled for Sunday, Jan. 28, at the University of New Mexico in Albuquerque, has been canceled due to weather. UNM also canceled its season opener, originally scheduled for today against New Mexico Highlands University. No make-up date has been determined for ENMU’s game with the Lobos.

The teams were originally scheduled to play a single 9-inning game at 1:00 p.m. (MST) Sunday. Winter weather in Portales and Albuquerque led to the cancellation.

ENMU Head Coach Phil Clabaugh said both teams want to reschedule the game later in the year. The Greyhounds will now open the season Friday, Feb. 1, against New Mexico Highlands at 9:00 a.m. (MST) in the Southwest Shootout at Tarleton State University (Stephenville, Texas).

Eastern concluded the 2000 season with a 25-21-1 overall record. The Greyhounds ended the year with a 21-12 record in their final 33 games, including a 10-8 record and a 3rd place finish in the Lone Star Conference South Division.

Clabaugh enters his 10th season at Eastern with an overall record of 219-253-1. His career record, including four seasons at Western New Mexico University, is 315-388-2. He earned his 300th career victory at Oklahoma Panhandle State University last season.
