ENMU BASEBALL TEAM SIGNS THREE PLAYERS TO LETTERS OF INTENT FOR 2001-02
PORTALES, NM — The Eastern New Mexico University baseball team has signed two junior college transfers and one high school senior to National Letters of Intent, Head Coach Phil Clabaugh announced today. The junior college transfers who have signed with ENMU are junior infielder Danny Civello (Richland College/Mesquite, TX), junior pitcher Ian Thurman- Kelly (Lamar C.C./Thorton, CO), and freshman pitcher Trevor Davis (Evergreen High School/ Evergreen, CO). The newcomers will join the Greyhounds for the 2001-02 academic year.

EASTERN NEW MEXICO BASEBALL SIGNINGS FOR 2001-02

Danny Civello
Infielder, 6’2”, 165, Mesquite, TX (Richland College)
Previously attended Mesquite High School in Mesquite, Texas.
Richland College is located in Dallas, Texas. Civello will be a junior at ENMU during the 2002 season. Civello earned a .352 batting average at Richland College this past season. He led the team with 12 home runs and 44 RBIs. Richland finished the year with a 37-17 overall record.

“One thing we lacked last season was much ability to hit the ball out of the yard,” Clabaugh said. “That’s where Civello is going to help us. He’s a powerful hitter, who will add some pop to the middle of our lineup. “He can play outfield, infield or catch. He’s a true utility player.”

Trevor Davis
Pitcher, 6’2”, 198, Evergreen, CO (Evergreen High School)
Davis will be a freshman at ENMU during the 2002 season.
Davis, a right-handed pitcher, earned a 4-2 record and a 1.63 ERA at Evergreen High School during the 2001 season. He struck out 56 batters in 43 innings pitched.

“He’s going to need some time to develop (at the college level), but his size (6’2”, 198 pounds), you can’t teach that,” Clabaugh said. “We’re happy that he’s come on board.”

Ian Thurman-Kelly
Pitcher, 6’0”, 180, Thornton, CO (Lamar Community College)
Previously attended Thornton High School in Thornton, Colorado.
Lamar Community College is located in Lamar, Colorado.
Thurman-Kelly will be a junior at ENMU during the 2002 season. Thurman-Kelly saw limited action at Lamar Community College this past spring, but earned a 2-2 record, with 14 strikeouts in 19 innings pitched. He had an outstanding high school career in Thornton, Colorado.

“Ian is a hard-throwing left-hander,” Clabaugh noted. “We look for him to really challenge for a hole in the starting rotation. He had some arm problems at Lamar, but he threw well late in their season, and is healthy now.”
