JOHNSON AND TAUTE SIGN WITH ENMU WOMEN’S BASKETBALL TEAM
PORTALES, NM — Wayne Moore, head women’s basketball coach at Eastern New Mexico University, has announced that two high school seniors have signed athletic scholarships to play for the Zias. Both players will join ENMU for the 2001-02 season.

Jenny Johnson (Jayton, TX/Jayton H.S.), a 6’1” post player, and Nicole Taute (Amarillo TX/Trinity Fellowship Christian H.S.), a 5’8” guard/forward, will help the Zias battle against their Lone Star Conference South Division opponents. Johnson and Taute signed with the Zias this spring during the regular signing period.

Taute will be a freshman during the 2001-02 season.

Johnson is a very talented athlete. She participated in basketball, track, golf, and tennis during her four years at Jayton High School. At ENMU, she will be one of several players challenging for playing time at the post positon. Johnson plans to pursue a degree in Criminal Justice.

Taute was a First Team All-State selection in 1999-00 and 2000-01. She was named District MVP in both her junior and senior seasons, after making Second Team All-District during her sophomore year. Taute also was selected to the 1999-00 All-State Tournament Team. Taute also played volleyball for Trinity Fellowship Christian High School, earning Second Team All-State accolades as well as being named to the All-State Tournament Team and the First Team All-District squad. She was a track and field state champion in the shot put, while becoming the state record holder in that event.

A quality student, she won the Army Reserve Scholar/Athlete Award in May of 2001, and is a member of the National Honor Society. Taute will pursue a degree in Business at ENMU.
