BASEBALL SIGNINGS Dunn earned a .300 batting average as a junior college player at NMMI. He also was a quality player in high school, and was selected for the New Mexico North/South All-Star series. “Aaron had an excellent career at the high school level, and has the potential to contribute to our program,” Clabaugh said. “He has some pop in his bat and can hit the ball.” Chris
Hill Hill hit .382 as a freshman and .397 as a sophomore at Scottsdale Community College. He batted fourth in the Artichokes’ lineup both years, and led Scottsdale in hits and RBIs during the 2001 season. “Chris put together the best offensive numbers of any player we’ve had from the Arizona junior college system,” Clabaugh said. “We’re excited about the contributions he will make to our program over the next two years.” Kevin
Hull Hull helped Richland College finish the 2001 season with a 37-17 overall record. He earned a 7-2 record on the mound, with a 5.50 ERA. He recorded 69 strikeouts in 68 2/3 innings pitched, while allowing 25 walks. He will challenge for a spot in our starting rotation.” Stan

He recorded one save, even though he made 11 starts in 13 appearances, including a team-high 7 complete games. Phelps threw one shutout, recorded 60 strikeouts and gave up 20 walks. He combined with Hull to lead the RC pitching staff, as the Thunderducks went 37-17. “Stan is a bulldog type of a pitcher with a great commitment to the game,” Clabaugh said. “He should contend for a spot in the starting rotation.” Mark
Wallace Wallace was chosen a High School All-American by Collegiate Baseball. He was the only player from New Mexico to make Collegiate Baseball’s list. He was a key player in the 2001 New Mexico North/South All-Star series, recording 2 homers and 11 RBIs to lead the South to a 2-1 series win. His top season was his junior year, when he hit .597, with 12 doubles, 4 triples and 4 homers. He also led the 2000 Alamogordo team with 29 runs scored and 32 RBIs. A versatile infielder, Wallace will be able to help the Greyhounds at several positions. “Mark is as good as any high school player in New Mexico,” Clabaugh said. “He plays solid defense and is a real threat at the plate.” |
